Patrick,

Just a thought, would it be able to have a transaction cost line in each portfolio? i think it would be interesting to see the amount spent by a trader, especially when they are doing badly.

thanks

Done

Hey. Patric. Where is NewGold (GLD)? That is a very good index to follow. You have NewGold Plat.

Added... When scanning for etf's I only looked at shares with a code longer than 3 characters  O:-)

The cause of many issues that will crop up is the difference between live pricing and the 15 min delay, not infrequently traded shares. Since the spirit of the game is to be an investment club, and not a live trader or scalper, then wouldn't it be better to delay all trades (buys and sells) by 15 minutes as well. That way you execute at the prevailing price at the time the trader sees the real time price.

Clearly it would be unrealistic to have live pricing here (because of the cost) so a delay seems most appropriate to synchronise everything.

Have you purchased/sold in the last 24 hours ;)

You'll notice a pending next to your line item with a price update once live prices are in!

I can provide you with lists of shares who's average daily deals, value or volume (over 52 weeks) is less than a certain amount. Not sure what deal count, value or volume should be applied though - 'cause NPN 1000 shares (low volume) is over R 1 mill (high value) even with just 2 deals (low count), when comparing to others.
Let me know if I can assist here

That would be a good start, ideally I need trade frequency. Shares that are traded continuously throughout the day can't be manipulated as easily as a share that sits at either the buy or sell price for very long.

CRD for example is too stagnant and has an extremely large spread.

these competitions have always had a issue in the past where someone buys shares that are not very liquid, e,g . If I had bought selco with all my money I would be 131% up today.

but that not be a true reflection as they hardly trade and there would be no hope of me selling or realising my profit.

Should you not have a cap on purchases related to the shares average volume

And it did not take to long to happen this year, games a farce

I have to unfortunately agree - I see new No 1 on the leader-board, bought a share, that would have taken him more than a week to get the quantity he owns - he could no sell the lot at a massive profit, even if the real market would only accept 1% of his holdings

Also agree, see my other thread now, how do we find the infrequently traded shares to remove them?

Ok, following on from all the changes made yesterday, as the competition allows selling, I need to remove infrequently traded shares. Any ideas how to identify them?

And it's done. Bonus points to the first person to figure out what's changed  >:D

The update will still allow trading, but discourage very short term trading, and put a complete stop to inside trading... Unless of course someone has real inside info on companies, in which case send me a pm  :LHST:

being able to play the game delayed and know real time pricing has but a different dimension on the sell feature.

Very true. That was a concern of mine about selling in the first place. The trick now is to try limit it. I'd like the game to be as close to reality as possible, after all, it was planned to be a learning environment. Here are some options:
-Have a limit on buying for 30 minutes after a sale (let the system catch up on any price weirdness), and likewise a limit on selling 30 minutes after a buy.
-Have a review system, let moderators review a trade and if it's not realistic to roll it back.
-Have a public review system, record appeals and make 3 appeals an auto rollback.

Just some thoughts, any more from the users?

:wtf: How could Griffin have bought OAO at 135 when it was trading at 165 at 16.17.44? It was at 135 just after 09.30 this morning.

Not sure, qriffin?

I've added selling to the competition for Monday's start, please could I have some testers. Note that I've made a full backup of the 2013 results and the database will be wiped clean at midnight on Sunday so don't be concerned about messing with your holdings. Any feedback would be great, thanks.
