Ok so lets see:
June so R600 000
+Total dividends received: R1,944.80
-Total fees paid: R40,683.88
+Net profit on share sales: R158,169.66
=719430.58
-R599,348.70
=120081.88

So your cash on hand should be R120 081.88 right?

Then we need to figure out how you have a negative holding in PNC...

The Investor Challenge / Need some calculation help
« on: June 10, 2014, 03:07:52 pm »
So clearly there's a problem in the way I'm currently calculating the price per share. Here's a couple of examples:
http://www.shareforum.co.za/competition/com_holdings_public.php?user_id=1897&year=current
and
http://www.shareforum.co.za/competition/com_holdings_public.php?user_id=6&year=current

In this case both competitors had shares they'd previously bought and sold, but now the current price per share is wrong. How would I calculate the price per share using the information under the transaction history. My brain just isn't clicking in right now!

A unique visitor is one PC/tablet/phone, the number of visits being higher means that people come back to the site more than once using the same tablet/pc/phone etc.

I haven't figured our why may was such a good month, but the extra load on the server by all the users was the reason why I had to take down the live chat. My server just couldn't handle the traffic with it on. I'm busy moving to a new server (cloud based, yay!) at the moment. Halfway done, the forum will probably be the next site to move, probably this weekend sometime.

And don't forget the game's money is in. Now to find something interesting to write about...

I just bought ABL -  :wtf: - shows I bought at 20% loss.

Seems I have to go bug hunting...

You can't compare apples with apples. Somebody mentioned earlier in this forum about "probably due to the price fluctuation. Rand cost averaging". Remember, over a 3 year period you will via your monthly purchases, buy the dips. That would give you more bang for your buck as you are purchasing in those dips giving you more "shares" in the ETF for the same amount of money.

In those dips, the lump sum option will actually lose money and will most probably make it back once the market rises again, but the monthly oke got more out of that dip.

Hmm, I've had a think about it and I think... I'm still right ;)

The only way buying monthly would be better, is if the dips drop lower than your initial purchase price, otherwise the lump sum bought straight away is better. I can see the dips being lower than the initial purchase for the first few months, but after a year or more there's very little chance bar a crash...

I would say the monthly purchase is lower risk though, as if there was a crash you'd get your rand cost averaging, but lower risk would again mean lower reward in the majority of cases.
