It's cents, the only difference would be foreign shares in US or UK cents.
And if you find a share that pays R292.30 per share on the JSE, please let me know, I'd want to buy it haha!

I like Sygnia as a company. They are very low cost providers. Lower in some cases than even buying ETFs through a broker. To me they're as close as we currently have to a Vanguard type company in SA. Sadly they're still for profit, so Vanguard does of course kick their asses, but with people finally taking notice of costs I think they could be in for growth in future.
Will I put my money behind them though? No, while I might invest with them, I'm not so convinced that I'd invest in them. I'll stick to my usual strategy of ETFs only.

In the past there was a big need for this, with minimum brokerage fees, and high percentages. But this position has mostly been filled by easy equities, who have no minimum fee. You can also own a partial share, ie if you invest R800 in naspers, you get the benefits of half the holding, someone else would own the other half. As a bonus you get to choose which shares to invest in.
As a groupon/broker I'm not sure I'd want to invest in the same thing everyone else does. Unless there is a very significant fee discount, and a rock solid company and contract protecting my assets. Can you get lower than 0.25% with no minimum?

So bad news for those of us under 45, but great news for those 45+.
I never really invested money anywhere for interest, but I do earn interest from money in my trading account. Sometimes a fair amount.
We're kind of getting screwed with our system. In the UK you can invest 15240 pounds per year! No overall limit, you can keep doing that as long as you like. That's over R300 000 each year. Then imagine if you're a family of 2 or even more. You would be able to put your entire investment account into tax free savings...
Canada has a similar overall limit to us, $41 000, but they can contribute $10 000 a year, so they reach that fast.
