This was too good not to share. Cell C accused MTN of keeping prices high so they could make billions. MTN responded and then some genius in Cell C marketing "fixed" the response!

Shares / Anyone else have password issues with ABSA stockbrokers?

Mine was fine for ages, but then one day I got locked out of the account. Had the password reset and it worked for 2 days, then locked me out. This has repeated itself for probably the 8th time today.

I last reset the password on Monday, it worked on Tuesday, but this morning the same password won't let me in. I've tried different browsers, different computers, my phone, clearing all cookies, no saved password anywhere.

If it happened once I would blame myself, but after the 3rd time I've been writing down my passwords to make doubly sure the fault isn't on my side. Anyone else experience this?  :wall:  :mad: :frustrated: :wtf: :'(

The live chat is just too heavy on the server in it's current form. When I added it to the challenge site it completely shut down the server! I'm going to have to find another way...

I've added selling to the competition for Monday's start, please could I have some testers. Note that I've made a full backup of the 2013 results and the database will be wiped clean at midnight on Sunday so don't be concerned about messing with your holdings. Any feedback would be great, thanks.

Off topic / Anyone noticed how fast things are lately :)

One of my sites apps went live unexpectedly at midnight on the blackberry store a few days ago, and downloads went from 20 a day to 400 in one day. This seemed to push things slightly over the edge without me watching, so I had quite a shock when I woke up.

Normally server loads hover between 2 and 4 (I have 4 processors, so anything over 4 means something has to wait for a processor), but by the time I woke up I was on a load of 10 with spikes over 20???.

Anyway, I had to look into optimising my code. I re-wrote a section to cache a number of values, which helped a fair amount, but in doing so I also noticed that there was an empty field where I would have preferred a zero. Empty fields don't bother php, but on the java side on the phone, it kept requesting more data as it didn't understand the blank. That damn zero was creating havoc and I never even knew! Happily load now stays under 1 mostly, so I could even cut my processors in half if I felt like it, or triple the traffic to my sites without needing an upgrade  ;D

Off topic / Isn't it great when you exceed your goals

Wasn't sure where to put this, but the markets been pretty good the last little while. So good in fact that I've made my year end goal with four months to spare! This is a big step for me, but I'll save the details for a blog post later this year :)

Couple of other things worked in my favour. One of my other assets paid out a little more than expected, and my monthly costs were a little lower than anticipated, but yeah all these small things seem to add up.  :)

Anyway, hope I don't sound like I'm gloating, and of course I realise that things can change very quickly in the market. I don't actually check the numbers too often but when I logged in today, I was quite pleasantly surprised with the numbers I saw. Makes me feel that all this investing is actually quite a good idea  ;D

It's new, so I couldn't chart it directly, but if we compare indexes we can go back about 10 years. In the attachments I've put the midcap vs the indi (not the satrix indi, but the industrial index which the satrix indi is based on) over 10 years, and 5 years, and the midcap vs the top40 over 10 years.

Clearly it beats the top40, but the interesting thing is how close it is to the indi. In fact, a lot of the time it beats the indi in the 10 year graph, and in the 5 year apart from the period between July 2012 where the indi took off.

I like the list of companies, and the fact that it's more diversified than the Satrix INDI so I'm thinking of adding some of these to my portfolio.

Your thoughts?
