Knowing in advance which sector will perform in the next few months requires a crystal ball, as with picking stocks, though of course we can speculate on which sector looks tempting form a valuation and/or technical perspective.

Some of the etf's I like include lvltrx, which aims to take advantage of the low volatility anomaly (supposedly lower risk/volatility with higher returns), for international I feel (slightly) more comfortable with valuations on eurostoxx 50 (dx tracker), any of the property etf's and gold (newgold etf) - know there might be some debating on this. Divtrx also looks decent as does stxdivi.

Can't say all or any of these will do well in the coming months, I just like the valuations and fundamentals of these and will be happy to hold on to these for a while.

Shares / Investment workshop
« on: April 29, 2016, 02:20:10 pm »
Hi guys,

I am looking for some feedback from some of the experienced members and investors here. Family and friends have been asking me to show them how to invest so now I am looking at hosting investment (not trading) workshops as a sideline project(I am a professional accountant & lifelong investor), basically showing people new to the stock market how to invest and getting them comfortable with the market and stocks.

We are not sure into how much detail to go, i.e. initially I thought about including value metrics like price/earning, return on equity, leverage measures, book value etc. But after a few sessions and considering it, it seems better to keep the focus on etf's, without going into all the detail of all these metrics as they can become quite overwhelming for new investors(even many experienced investors don't know/understand these).

Also, do you guys think there is a demand for this type of service, and where do we find interested people?

Shares / Re: Weird Trades on a share

Big buy orders can significantly move the market price if they are executed all at once as there often isn't enough shares on offer (people selling their shares) at the price they want, so they break up the purchases in "chunks". With this they also try to hide the large purchase of shares (although as you can see you can't perfectly hide it) so that traders and the like don't front run their share purchases, also effectively increasing the buying price of the shares.

This is an interesting post, thanks.

Pilot could you please provide a some more info on the selection of shares (don't have to give exact details)?

Do you trade this with a real account and real money? If so, how do you do that in practice? Do you update your holdings everyday?

It just seems like transaction costs could be a significant barrier to effectively using this as the list quickly changes?

Shares / PE of ETF's

Hey guys,

Does anyone know where you can get the PE ratios of etf's, maybe on a weighted average? And maybe some additional info like the etf's weighted ROE and div yield?

Hey guys,

So I was wondering, what is your biggest challenge in investing(not trading) for yourself?
