Who do you reckon has the best portfolio in the game.

By this i do not mean as who has had the most growth. The answer won,t be in the ton 10 or 20 in the game. But who has a nice group of shares that are doing well and also reasonably risk averse

Supervan or Bounce does not look to bad

Wow 8) for a real shrae trading noob thats a lekker compliment  ;D


I must say I try and play within the "spirit" the game of being the chairman of an investors club also thinking in terms of were would my own hard earned money go.Also no 1c stocks with no actual volume as i that's defeating the purpose of why i'm playing.  I am using this as a learning platform as I want to start investing some real money sometime.

It like to see this through to (this year next year who knows) when the correction comes through that so many are predicting and see what my portfolio looks then as i think that will be the real test for those long term portfolios.

This is a difficult question as views will differ as to what the poster's prerequisites are. Here is mine for SuperVan but it is based on technicals and not on fundamentals. Also based on a 3 year holding term and thus taking the PE into consideration.

ADI Good looking chart in uptrend. PE = 18  Sector PE is 41. Great stock for long term.

CML Best performer over many years but might be peaking. PE = 29. No sector PE.

CZA Down trending for a long time. So carry on down?

FGL In uptrend but very volatile. PE very high (53) . Not for long term.

FWX Very volatile and 6m flat in 1y. PE good at 13 compared to sector PE at 24. Opportunistic trade.

MDI. No info for this on Reuters.

NED Volatile and 4 month flatline in 1 year. Recent upswing with banks that was not anticipated. Good PE.

PNC Good chart and low PE ratio of 12 compared to sector of 41. A long term must have.

REI Good looking chart for long term. PE slightly higher than sector at 19 vs 14.5.

SHP Extremely volatile chart and the gain was fortuitous.  In uptrend but PE is at 28 compared to sector at 35

STXSWX Up all the way but rather volatile. The Indi would have been a better choice for an ETF.

As to Bounce. Mostly resources so I cannot comment much as resources are considered as "Trading Stocks" and not "Investment Stocks". Not only my view but most if not all analysts view them as trading stocks.
His gains were opportunistic and will not hold for long term.

OK, busy looking.

jaDEB & tgg is out, too much gold. (i.e. awesomeness)
BB13 is out, nice port but has 36% of a 1c share

I like Dex's, CML & NPN.

And Vlad, Landry's & Patrick - they have a nice breakdown of shares and should in real life be a safe bet and be succesfull.

I haven't had much time to look at the best portfolio, but just a comment on SuperVan's ... about 30% of the portfolio is taken up by CZA FGL and FWX, all of which I consider risky investments - so for me it doesn't take top honours.

Question for the forum: Given that the initial investment to date is 1.1 mil, is there an ideal number of shares you would consider for a portfolio of this size (which also lends to the idea of what max percentage of the total portfolio any one share can be).

On a personal portfolio level I rarely buy a counter which would make up more than 10% of the overall portfolio value - that is the cost of acquiring the shares and not it's current value. Example Mr Price is 8.92% of portfolios cost but currently it is 12.2% of present day value. Also tend to spend no more than 2 - 3% of portfolio cost on risky shares like Alert Steel and Poynting in my real portfolio

In line with this thread, we could have a best portfolio award for the year based on members voting. I would suggest the following:
- nominations are put forward by mid Dec
- top 5 is voted on by everyone
- winner decided by end Dec

What do you say?
