Lost some purchase records
« on: August 21, 2015, 03:01:28 pm »
Hi all,

For some weird reason, the entire purchasing table was wiped out today. This is quite weird, as nowhere in my code is there ever a delete statement referencing that table, so I can only assume it was a bug. I've managed to run a backup from two days ago, but I have lost 69 purchase records. I'll be spending some time thinking of how to get these back.

Potentially I could compare the purchase list with the current holding list and find any anomalies as the current holding table was not affected. Then I'd have to see if the current net worth doesn't add up and reconcile that to get the price.

Bear with me, it's not going to be easy or fun!

Hi Patrick,

Weird and sorry to hear about the problem. I'm one of those whose holdings is affected. I had 10,000 Gold Fields shares and sold 5,000 yesterday. Then I sold 2,500 this morning obviously after the problem arose. My holdings now shows as 2,500 which is correct but the sale of 5,000 from yesterday has been lost. Not sure if this affects the PnL reporting either because that looks a little overstated for me too.

Good luck and thanks for the efforts in keeping this site updated and so efficient. I'm sure I speak on behalf of all of us in saying that.

Cheers,
Bevan

Hi Patrick.

Good luck with sorting out the problem. However if you don't, could you please correct my Basil Read purchase (one of the affected transactions) from cost of R410 (now reflected) to R350 per the original transaction which is now missing from the bottom of the purchase list.

The other thing that I noticed was the "Net profit on share sales" reflects zero, but the underlying info is there when you click on it.

Thanks.

I seem to have lost a purchase order - the only reason I say this is because my net profit is now zero and it should be negative. Also my position has dropped significantly yet my percentage increases/decreases don't seem to justify this drop - so there may be a reconciliation error somewhere in the numbers

Ok, a quick update. Fortunately it seems to be only the one table that was wiped out. Still have no idea why. So far I've managed to fix all the net profits for the users. Also luckily, the transaction history has no effect on your actual holdings, or your standings in the table. It only plays a role in calculating the average cost per share in case you were to sell.

Seems to have corrected itself with whatever you did on the data base - have moved back to where I was on the leaderboard - and the loss on sales has also come back on the portfolio view

Thanks Patrick, so even though it shows me missing 5,000 Gold Fields shares in the transaction history, I'm assuming that my net PnL is correct and the current holdings is correct. That's all that really matters then. Thanks again.

That's the way it works, but if you can remember when and for how many shares and the price, I can manually add it to your record. That will give you a more accurate growth percentage (or more likely loss percentage given the last few days hah!).

Take a look now. I wasn't sure if you bought on Friday or Monday, went with the Friday prices. If you remember the price let me know and I'll update it. Won't affect much though.

Yes, it's obviously a missing purchase transaction for AQP making it look like you have too much profit. Do you remember what your purchase price for AQP was so I can correct it?
