ETF vs the world

(1/3) > >>

Cius:
So looking through the MYBB group I checked all the public profiles and saw that ETF's where scarce and if they where present they where less than 20% of the portfolio. As a big fan of ETF's as a diversified way to invest I am purchasing only ETF's and seeing how I compare against the MYBB board. Not sure how it will work out for me as yet but I would not be surprised if I end the year in the top 20% of the group taking the low risk diversified approach instead of betting on a handful of individual companies. So lets see how it plays out.

Patrick:
I was hoping to see more of this, the other is a purely satrix40 profile (highlighted in red). I'm also a firm believer in ETFs and hold most of my portfolio in real life in ETFs and unit trusts. In the game I'm trying seeing whether I can beat the market. So far so good (with a generous helping of luck)... :)

Johan:
There's a lot of ETFs out there, so you're still picking, you're just picking a basket. I've been happily holding the satrix indi for some time now, and it's beaten just about every fund manager out. Whether it will continue to is the question.

Motlatsimabaso:
This competition is about the 'top performers', and that's most likely to be the person who makes the best bet on an individual company (or two).  In reality I wouldn't be that foolish.  I would (and do) stick to ETFs.  But seeing as this is just a game, it's all about "the punt" and I don't mind just throwing my money on a company like I would on a race horse.

Perhaps. Although it is called the "Investor" challenge and not the trading challenge. Either way I will be interested to see how I perform vs the pickers and choosers and what that says about the different techniques.
