Title: Traded volume discrepancies on different sites
Post by: Pluto on October 05, 2016, 05:06:17 pm
Hey,

Does anyone know why there would be discrepancies between traded volumes quoted on different sites? OHLC all match, just Volume looks out?

Check the volumes for 04/10/2016, according to Sharenet it was 1,260,354 and according to Google Finance it was 1,109,619

Sharenet link doesn't seem to work if you click it, sorry, if you just copy and paste the URL into your browser it seems to work.

Standard Bank and Sharenet match...

Had a look at a few different shares and same thing shows up, APN on 29/09/2016 has SENS about GSK, 57million traded according to Standard Bank and Sharenet, but Google finance says just 14million.

Any ideas?

Sharenet provides live feed to most banks and brokerages in SA. This is why the prices and volumes are the same.
Bloomberg, Google Finance and Reuters are not connected to this system and I find rather large discrepancies in their daily prices and volumes.
So just disregard foreign website exact values. I don't know where Patrick gets his feed from but I'm sure it is local.

Interesting. Thanks!

I found a link on Google Finance to report a problem, gave them the details, will see if they reply with a reason/fix.
