In the "Your Holdings" section, maybe it would be nice if there was a field showing how much % each share makes up of your portfolio
Other than that looks pretty awesome!

Good idea, it's done.

Big thanx Patrick and good luck to all.

Suspended shares should not be included in list e.g. SHB.
-
Good point, it's fixed, credited the amount back to you. I don't have a list I can scan though, so if anyone knows of other shares to remove from the list please let me know.
-
If you take investing serious, and you choose a suspended share, then you loose and learn to first have a look before you buy.

AGI is currently suspended

jaDEB, I agree and I would have agreed to suffer the consequences.
I was just 'testing' the system - I have not had a chance to since yesterday.

Patrick, looking at some of the people who have Old Mutual shares. These guys have dividends, but the OML LDT was 19 April. The competition only started on the 22nd, so the guys would not have qualified for the divvie. I just did a quick check so please correct me if I got this wrong.
-
Dividends have been tough to figure out. There isn't a list of LDTs I can grab on a website. I did manage to find most of the ex-dividend dates. AFAIK if you hold shares before the ex-div date you get a payment. OMLs ex dividend date was the 22nd, so even though it was after LDT, they did technically own the shares at the right time...
I'll go with thoughts from others here?
Unless I find a site offering all those dates, the only way I could see of having things perfect would be to have humans entering the dates for me. Perhaps double checked by someone else. That way contestants would have to enter the LDTs and ex dividend dates.

Don't want to nitpick, but I do agree with Shi. In order to qualify for a dividend you must hold the share in your portfolio at close of business day on LDT.
I will post LDT dates on a weekly basis (if I forget please remind me).
My bad... Already being posted

How do you sell some of your shares?

How do you sell some of your shares?
From the front page:
Please note, this is an investment club, not a trading club, and you will not be able to sell any shares, so plan your purchases wisely!
From next year you'll probably be able to dump losing shares, but most likely no profit taking. In keeping with the theme of an investment contest...
Nice going btw, i see you're in second place. Care to give us some insight into your choices?
-
Ah my mistake!
I like my smallcaps.. hence the choices! As is my personal strategy, back the winners like Calgro M3, Rolfes and Afrocentric as they have proven themselves in recent times, just remember Aspen, Capitec, Famous Brands etc all started small.. Hopefully one of these 3 will shine in the long term! Added Transaction Capital as well, newly listed with great management.. still need to prove themselves thus the drop in price from listing and hence my position added :)

We both share the same philosophy.
I read this somewhere, (think it was Ben Graham - the intelligent investor(a must read btw- have pdf if anyone's interested) ) Something to the effect that if one invests x amount in a company than one can only lose x amount but if you pick a winner then over a long term the gains can be astronomical.
If even 1 in 5 of your shares does exceptionally well then it would cover the failures and more.
So lets hope we have chosen at least 1, hopefully more than 1 ;D
