STXIND ... any thoughts
« on: November 21, 2016, 03:49:54 pm »
i heard all the warnings on this one throughout the year. Naspers having 30% or more on this fund. Thing  is I have only held this for over a year so its been bleak :wall:

I have been looking onto the DIXTRAX etf and aiming at moving here

Not a fan of switching and moving around

but keen to get anyones opinion on future of STXIND?

Anyone feeling this

Performance wise there is not much diffs between the 2. I bought DIVTRX 15 months ago and so far I have lost 4%. Had I bought STXIND at the same time, I would also have lost 4%. (no divies included)

Only the YTD chart shows DIVTRX leading by 23%.

The 2Y chart shows both at a gain of 5%.

The 3 year shows both at a gain of 28% although the DIVTRX is not quite 3 years old yet.

So performance wise, both are apples from the same tree.

One must also take into consideration that the STXIND was the best performing ETF for many years and when the economy improves and political noise subsides, STXIND may well regain that place. DIVTRX has not got enough history as yet.

I started here with nothing and still have most of it left.

I bought most of my STXIND in June 2013 (I sold out of the DIVI as it was going nowhere) and to date have shown a price improvement of 41%. I have a view that if the economy is to improve it will happen firstly in the retail sector, then followed by the industry/manufacturers who will have to ramp up product to meets sales demands. However I am also mindful of new car sales as this is also an indicator (when volumes increase) that the economy is on the mend - currently new car sales are still in the doldrums so I can't see the economy improving in the short term. And of course the political set up is not very encouraging at present, if Zuma had to go soon then we may see a substantial turn around in our economy, and we may see different trading partnerships being developed as is happening in Brazil currently

I don't like it because it has no cap on weightings. I've stopped buying it and when the time is right I'll sell them and move the funds somewhere else.

Sold out my INDI shares a few months ago and when I do that then that's normally a signal for that share to increase! But not this time as I see it's dropped down further in price.

My problem now is where to invest my INDI funds as it's lying offshore and available but think the best thing is wait till early new year when we'll know more about what's happening in the US and here in SA and then hopefully invest in a few ETF's

Any new thoughts on investing the INDI ?

I have 10 days left to max out my TFSA and was thinking of putting the $$ in the INDI..

My thoughts are still what they were: Drop INDI in favour of NFEMOM or DIVTRX

You only need to have your funds in the TFSA by 28th of this month the underpinning ETF can be bought anytime.
So in the case of INDI move the funds to the TFC and then place an order on record with your broker.
I have placed an order for INDI at R 65.90 and will wait out until it gets to that level
