Title: Preservation Fund Choices?
Post by: NakedPeanut on May 29, 2017, 03:57:42 pm
Wife and I are moving to the USA on an internal transfer, so I need to decide on a local preservation fund.
I'm looking for alternatives, pitfalls and any words of wisdom you can give!

My Funds are currently in an Allan Gray Balanced Fund, which hasn't done too badly and has "relatively" low fees.. So keeping it in that fund doesn't seem like a bad idea.

But in doing some due diligence, I'm investigating other options:

I always recommend the Sygnia Skeleton Balanced 70 fund. It's the cheapest in SA and is made up entirely of index funds so you won't have a fund manager losing you any more money.

Note that there's a big difference between the Sygnia Skeleton Balanced 70 fund and the Sygnia Skeleton 70 fund. This first is a cheap tracker, the second is a cheap tracker with an expensive active fund attached. Go for the first even though Sygnia tries to get you to take the second.

Out of the batch you listed 10x is the next cheapest, but still nearly twice the price of Sygnia.

Thanks Patrick! Yes I'm looking at the Sygnia Balanced SGSKLBA:SJ (http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/SGSKLBA:SJ) after having read an article on Moneyweb (https://www.moneyweb.co.za/investing/which-ra-is-most-cost-effective).

So now i'm looking at the other side of the equation, performance.
Always heard and read good things about Coronation so I'm looking at Coronation Balanced Plus CORBALN:SJ (http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/CORBALN:SJ) in comparison, which seems quite good.
