Own Shares VS Game shares
« on: March 13, 2014, 10:30:00 pm »
Who has what and why.

I  now have KIO, cause they seemed a buy this week, GFI for the road to recovery, also trying to recover a loss buy, ABL, cause I think it should have an decent upside potential and SHP cause I think were also oversold as kio was.

In the game I have 2 entries, one in tgg78703 and the other AAE, the one is in recovery mode and the other one giving and arrogant lucky from last year griffen gas

 :)

all in jest griffin

I always make the same moves for game & reality.

(Out of game & market since 6 Feb this year.)

I'm quite boring, in real life I just buy the indi. I went against my usual rule in December and doubled up on CML though. It promptly dropped for a couple of weeks leaving me feeling rather stupid but I'm smiling now!

In the game I'm completely different, I scour the web for info and look for shares with momentum or unexpected drops...

I hold the same shares in "the game" as I do in my private portfolio barring Oceana, but the crux is that most of my private holdings were acquired at lower prices last year. So my private portfolio looks a lot better than the game shares as they were only acquired recently

I use the game to learn more about trading. Generally try not to spend to much time on game, rather use spare time on real portfolio.   Just trying to figure out why I am doing better in games than in real life.   :wall:

Simple explanation - you don't want to lose money on your real portfolio so are probably ultra cautious, whereas the game you are prepared to take bigger risks because it is only a game and you are not losing real money

I play what I have in my real portfolio regardless of what I expect them to do purely so I can compare my performance to indexes and not to winners.
As long as I beat the indexes, I'm a happy chappie. I stated that Resources (GP in ZAR) will be the flavour of the year vs Indi but I stuck to my portfolio stocks.
qriffin can gloat now and call me names but over the longer term he just cannot beat me with his REAL portfolio.
I started here with nothing and still have most of it left.

Thats my problem with investing, my longer term stuff are on their own and longer term stuff.

The Jse to me is a money making hobby, at times money losing as well.

Taxes have to be paid.

The way stocks are moving up and down there are many times that a stock would have nominal growth over a calender year , but in that calender year there could have been some good money making opportunities.

An example would be sgl,  low of 673 in may 2013 to a high of 2560 today, but that will not reflect in any calender year research

Yes, I agree but investing in momentum stocks has always done me well except for PNC that got hit with the ZAR and the depth of peoples pockets lately. I expected it but could not sell.
At this time, the momentum stocks have declined but will revive. The guys in resources are gambling as this sector was in a long term decline and only now has made a come back. Will this last for the 3 year tax thingy? No doubt it will not if you check the long term charts.
These resource guys will have to sell within that period and have to pay tax as income.
Resources are short term.
Industrial equities will always win over time.
