My biggest share boo boo.
« on: April 23, 2013, 07:14:04 pm »
I got very clever last week while I was investing in liquid stocks. I decided to place Alerts for my 3 stocks with SMS"s to my cellphone. The first 2 went ok I think. The liquid stocks must have kicked in with my PNC as the next morning my cell went off and continued going off with messages that stated "PNC sold at xxx". WTF I thought.  What's going on here. Grabbed my tablet and connected to my broker site. Eish. No internet due to thick mist. Phone goes off again and again. Grabbed it and phoned my broker and found out that I had a Sell instead of an Alert for PNC. Closed the Sell via my broker. R81K sold and I tried to keep to SARS 3 year thing.
Started buying back in again as it went lower and finished at a R250 loss.

I started here with nothing and still have most of it left.

;D I know the feeling, I've got 4 backups for ISP-service disruptions and/or electricity issues, but this you only learn once you get burnt real good.

On a Friday morning way back when, I bought Uranium One shares at R40-something per share about an hour before the tsunami strike.  Of course, being totally unaware that Fukushima was smack bang on the ring of fire and focusing only on the human tragedy playing out, I thought nothing of it. My shares did fine that Friday, the weekend sounded the nuclear alarm and by Monday morning it was all over, down between 40%-50% and never recovered.  I think it is still hovering around R20-something a share, but I'v lost total interest since so I don't really know how its doing now. ;D  Then there was AET and WEZ, uggg, getting depressed now, back to alsi trading rather.

Bought UUU, went up, crashed after Tsunami. Bought more at R18, then they announced takeover bid at about R24. Sold at R24, thus ja, UUU will be delisted in May I think.
