Post by: jaDEB on June 10, 2013, 12:14:22 pm
When we were discussing "THE" share, CML, here or other site, cannot remember. Some1 brought up OCE. Any comments. 8)

Maybe discovery, but I hate them, being a client I pump enough money into the company with  :frustrated: minimal returns.

A fridge without some SAB in it just wouldn't seem right. #1 keeper in my book ;)

Hey jaDEB, i've last touched equities 2008/9 only focusing on T40 & macro view since then.  Now its back to square one for purpose of competition (fun not serious), what I'm trying to say very inarticulately is that my opinions will probably be uninformed, uninspired and useless.

Mr. Bond has just moved house so a bit out of it now. Everything he thought was good is not living up to
expectations. :-X
Anyway, how about IVT, which posted really good results today ? .. http://www.sharenet.co.za/v3/sens_display.php?tdate=20130611142500&seq=26

Add it wise@ss, the way things are going now (T40 -1130 points), probably all shares evolved into long term keepers now.

I'm moving nicely up on IC (investor challenge not intensive care :))) and I haven't even stared yet.

Sorry Moneypenny, no insult intended. Regarding the IC, I have shot up to No 11, from about 1435th. But something is wrong, check the leader up 600%, but cannot see any share they have that could have given them that. :wtf:

Depends on your economic outlook at the moment. Invicta is a solid earner but has massive exposure to the rand, however this works both ways. When the rand weakens they tack on and lock in gains for the long term. But have a massive swing in the rand as we've seen and they weaken over the short-term. Long-term however they will always be decent earners and they have a very good management team.

PNC has a lot going for it but it's down to their management to steer the company in the right direction post set-top-box rollout. They're riding that wave nicely at the moment but is it sustainable over the long term? Technicals are also fairly solid but this isn't the greatest litmus test for long-term outlook. I think PNC still have some way to go over the coming years and they're cash-flush enough for some M&A activity to sustain growth if necessary.

Two quick, but rather different examples I can think of for now, outside of the usual incumbents...

I barely feel qualified to comment here.  Could I say SATRIX INDI ::)

Seriously though, I would assume that the stocks you can call keepers may be ones with steady, consistent growth, and a market that would be unlikely to desert it (like SAB and BTI). If I had to list a company now, and take us to a new sector it would be Aspen. If we're all going to be drinking and smoking such a lot we'd better have something to look after ourselves with  :D

Sorry for long delay but I had to do research on stocks again as I keep forgetting.
My choices would be stocks with low PE ratios as I'm too stoopid to work out Fair Values.
CML after it has corrected.
PNC
MTA
OCE
IVT

A fairly recent edition of Finweek and someone renowned on SAFM radio both commented on Sasol as favourable to buy and hold long term.  As though it sticks out like a helluva opportunity.  I don't know if this qualifies here as well?

Don't like the one's with high PE's unless they are lower than the sector.

This one is looking really good at the moment.
