Post by: jaDEB on June 10, 2015, 08:39:29 am: The challenge will commence Friday June 12 and end on Friday August 14 2015.

Each entrant will receive R1 million virtual money to trade with on the JSE using the iTrade live Virtual Trade Simulator (VTS).
The challenge is free and open to South Africans and Namibians over the age of 18 years on 1 June 2015.
No professional investors and traders will be allowed. Refer to the Terms and Conditions.
One registration per person only. Valid ID and e-mail address required.
Trade in any of the Top 100 shares on the JSE as well as ETFs. No penny stocks included. Refer to the Terms and Conditions for the trading rules.
Make use of the iTrade’s comprehensive share data, charting, research, tools and learning centre, click here: Products & Services.
To alleviate congestion when the challenge commences, no new registrations will be allowed only during the first two days of the challenge.
The VTS platform will be accessible from June 1 2015. For an added advantage, register early and you can practice before the challenge starts.

It's top 100 by market cap and most ETF's - no list that I can see. Also no leader board...maybe they need to outsource it to Patrick® PTY Ltd ?

Doesn't say much for their robust checking of their system at all, hopefully this glitch doesn't happen in their real life system.
Without being too critical this competition has been run over a few years - surely they could have sorted these glitches out in their beta testing - must be a bit of a jolt to their reputation
So we start all over again with the market having increased quite a bit this last week and a shortened period to end date of competition - hardly a competition for an investor but more so for a trader

I was on the straight and narrow and had a sell order that was ‘good till day end’ but it triggered at 12:00 auction (which I wasn't aware of by the way, O:-) only knew about morning/afternoon auctions).

So I was thinking ‘glitch’. Logged out, logged back in, profit was still there.

Happy days – short lived.

I contacted them, seems they didn’t know about the midday auction glitch, should have just shut it. >:D

If yes, then how is it possible for them to not make extraordinary amounts of profit year after year?

On a percentage basis you are doing better in I Trade than on this challenge

I have entered the competition and once I have bought all my shares, I intend to just sit with them to competition end, not into buying and selling on a consistent basis

I am with ABSA and EE - must say the iTrade gives you a lot of interesting info. But it's certainly not very nice to look at -it's really all over the place. But, as said great info for a trader - ABSA seems easier to use and perfect for a long term portfolio.

How does it stack up to Std bank/ PSG's offerings?

The process of buying shares seems somewhat antiquated and it doesn't show depth of bids and offers, also did not see transaction history.
I don't want to be unkind to Sanlam but being with my brokers I wonder if they ever asked their clients what they would like to see on the screens. However their screens may well be formatted in the way they are because they may be more skewed to assist traders rather than investors, so the layout of their screens does not encourage me to move from my present brokers

They also mail me stock evaluations from themselves and Merchantec.

But for actual trading I use ABSA. I think paying R200 a year is a bargain. :TU:

PS. IView is the virtual trading account, and I have renewed mine in march, so yes it is renewable.

Don't know enough to trade, but spreading it around in my usual diversified portfolio would get me nowhere. So bought two of the smaller shares available - but ones I am interested in, but will probably never hold in my portfolios. Supergroup and KAP. And both might deliver TU's.

Wow, I cannot believe that guys cannot extract the data and display it on a leaderboard. Not a good advertisement for Sanlam.

Should add I am not doing very well in the sharenet comp this month - let's just say I am in the bottom quarter... :whistle:

Happy with my progress in IC - from being in the bottom 20 (thx CML) am now hiding in the middle of the pack with my sensible (boring) portfolio.

Well I sold the DBXEU but it did not allow me to buy TBS - I had +R 96,000 cash to buy and tried to buy 300 at R295.95 which is some R 89,000

When buying the shares I left a buffer of about R 6,000 - so is a bit perplexing, but its a competition - nice going on your portfolio growth

Well so far today my personal portfolio is showing R 36,580 profit but then I have taken a few knocks of + R 100,000 on bad days - so definitely swings and roundabouts - or as the hacks say volatility
