Just curious on your thoughts jaDEB. I've been reading that the market is pretty close to an all time high P/E. I read this an article a little while back saying that we're about 3% off our all time high P/E wise.

PE Ratio ..  my 2c

I have Naspers - P/E Ratio 85.47.

PE can mean as follows:-

Low PE.

Good Buying opportunity
Something is wrong
Low PE can also mean future earning is going to be lower.

High PE

Good prospects ahead - people will pay premium
Bad buying opportunity - previous results the Earning was very low

I always look at PE, but u need to look at it deeper reason. If you like a company u can follow the PE and try and buy at a lower PE rate. But as above there is so many reason for PE ratio to be different.

I agree jaDEB but for certain stocks only. The average PE of the Alsi should stay at the same level.
I started here with nothing and still have most of it left.

Ola jaDEB. Haven't been studying stocks for some months as I still don't have a laptop. Super expensive here due to VAT at 23% and importing is out the question as it Is discouraged by adding 60% duties and VAT.
Here is a chart of the top 40 that shows we are in a Buy area. Can't draw lines but if you draw one on the bottoms since end June, you will see that we are well below support.
I started here with nothing and still have most of it left.

Overdone ? Well maybe from a technical aspect, but not from a fundamental and macro economic view.
Just read your Bloomberg, check the PMI's and services indices, and remember that Italy is in recession and
France for all intents and purposes as well. German industrial ouput is sharply down and their PMI and services index
are hitting new lows. China is not going for QE type stimulus and is slowing, despite the occasional small upward blip
to their PMI.
So all we have is the USA with a little growth and hence the prospect of rising rates sometime in the first half of 2015.
This is all translating to a stronger dollar and generally weak commodity prices. ZA can only counter with a weaker Rand.
So, where is the good news that is supposed to get us out of overdone territory ?
I am of course cheesed off that my portfolio is suffering, but it's not too bad as I mainly have Rand Hedge stocks and
defensives.
