Bloomberg watchlist
« on: January 09, 2019, 09:08:36 am »
G'day,

Newbie here.

I read and saw on a previous post on this forum about using Bloomberg to track ones portfolio. Someone posted a diagram of the % split. I created a Bloomberg account and added my ETF's but I don't see where one can produce/view the portfolio split diagrammatically.  Is there a 'How to use Bloomberg Watchlist' beginners guide? Where do I add the date I bought the stock and at what price etc? I use EE to buy ETF's. Is there another tool I can use for this purpose other than Bloomberg?

I'm a very late bloomer when it comes to 'taking ownership' of my finances......

No idea, I've never used bloomberg. I'm a fan of tracking things using google sheets. You can get the current price by using a formula like this for Naspers: =GOOGLEFINANCE("JSE:NPN","price")

Then just multiply by how much you hold and you're done.

Both Bloomberg and Reuters offer fairly limited public access to their online services. They really want you to shell out for their terminals which cost several thousands of dollars monthly. However, a combination of several screens, Excel skills and live price links as Patrick suggests, plus a live TV feed, will take you a long way towards what the more professional traders take for granted at their desks each day.

On the watchlist page, click on the "Edit" tab, then add the new symbol, or if you already own some of it, add a new lot to that symbol. Then click Save Changes.

Having said all that, I started with Bloomberg watchlist, then built my own Google Sheet, like Patrick spoke about.
Does exactly the same thing, but I can now build further analysis on top of it.

Finally got around to generalising my spreadsheet to the point where I can give it to someone else.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kRBSGivYtCEIJ0UFfJouHm6mc-2CjtOZZlKe67Jk32w/edit?usp=sharing

Click File->Make a copy to make your own.
In general, edit stuff in the light cells, the dark cells are all calculation driven.
Then edit the "Securities Info" data to add the ETFs/shares you're invested in.
Then add your "Lots" to the "Lots" tab.

Then build your own super fancy analysis :)

Should if there's anything unclear (or completely wrong  ;D)
