If you had R1m to invest now would you put it all in ETF's or something else?

If ETF's which ones?

Also saw that in the Sunday Times yesterday and Finbond 110% annual growth and with R10k invested 5 years ago would now be at R411k is that for real? Incedible!

I forgot about yozzi's question as to expenses so here goes:

I pay €375 for a fully furnished 2 bed flat and it is modern.

My rent plus utilities plus TV, unlimited internet and food amounts to €580 pm. This does not include entertainment as it differs with lifestyle.
A car is not needed here as public transport is great.

Thanks Orca and that rental is excellent nearly 3 times cheaper than a 2 bed, 2 bath apartment close to the beach here in Blouberg and not furnished either! So all in all that's a really cheap cost of living

Orca your story is inspiring and just shows that when you find yourself in a position against all the odds there is still hope and being positive is the way to go! Great stuff and I hope all continues well in her recovery.

I've always had an affiliation with Spain as I've been all over the country mainly when in my 20's and living in the UK it was easy to get there for holidays but Portugal sounds very interesting and must admit somewhere like Porto would appeal to me and be good to get a cost of living scenario what are rental prices like? Any info would be great!

Go well  :TU:

Is anyone buying/selling bitcoins at the moment? Is it a lucrative? What sort of % profits/losses are you achieving?

I'm still trying to understand what it's all about!

Finding a friend you trust over there would be a quick solution. Do you still have contacts there?

My cousin lives in the UK, but I am not sure how he can help.

I see that ABSA offers international accounts in GBP, USD or EUR. Only requirement is R5000 equivalent minimum balance to be maintained. Seems like it might be a good option. I hope that DeGiro will then accept payments from the account.

Would be interesting to know if any one on the forum has used DeGiro and how they have found the experience? Good or bad?

New SATRIX ETFs coming: World Feeder, Emerging Markets Feeder and S&P500 :)

Went to the ETFSA SATRIX presentation, re the above new ETF's, in CT last night and very interested in taking up the Initial Public Offering (IPO) before July 17th but have a question how do I take up this IPO with funds based offshore? Asked my offshore broker this morning if I could do this but he says they are not allowed to participate in IPO's in SA

Any ideas guys or have I put this post in the wrong thread?

I'm with Nationwide in the UK and they do offer offshore accounts based in Isle of Man so check their website

Why don't Zuma and Wenger swap jobs?

Z has already taken SA down and I'd love to see him get Arsenal relegated and W is pretty stingy with the finances and doesn't look too coruptable so be good to let him be in charge of the country and purse strings!  :))

This is the closing price of USD/ZAR on FXCM. Wonder why this happened.

As stated previously I bought dollars at R14.50 a very big mistake so in trying to cut my losses a bit I bought Sterling last week at 1.22 hoping for a short term rise to 1.27-1.30 and a possible buy back at that rate or would you sell the Sterling for another currency maybe?
