Shares / Re: Steinhoff merging with Shoprite
« on: October 04, 2016, 03:52:48 pm »
I do think that when there is a tie up between Shoprite/Checkers/Pep/Steinhoff they are going to have to look at their delivery model, which could take bucket loads of cash/debt/or share auctions
Just my opinion

Thanks for sharing your opinion. This indicates that a bigger capex will be required in the short term. Therefore that reduces the potential dividend payments. I am looking for high yield investments where dividends increase over time.

Shares / Steinhoff share price after Shoprite
« on: October 01, 2016, 12:24:39 pm »
Steinhoff is a complex business I don't understand very well. I want to invest this year.

Tell me what do you believe will happen to their share price after they buy Shoprite?

Why can't I find Sovereign Foods on the Investor Challenge? They produce chicken in Eastern Cape.

Thanks for your input. This is a worth while discussion.

I decided to stick with EE because I only have a Capitec Bank account. Its too much of a hassle to a new bank account with one of the big four.

There's two ways I would "teach" investment workshops:
  • Start blogging and allow people to find you
  • Tell your family to sign-up for a demo account on Easy Equities

Once they have signed-up to Easy Equities invite them to your house once a week for a discussion. They can learn by themselves reading this forum, Moneyweb, BizNews or Easy Equities Blog.

@Moneypenny what platform or website do you use to see live trades? I want to subscribe to a platform to track my portfolio not available.

Shares / Maize shortages in Southern Africa
« on: December 26, 2015, 02:29:47 am »
As you know Maize is an important crop for Southern African foods. Premier foods is one of the largest producer of Maize products and Brait owns 90% of Premier. The demand outstrips the supply, therefore maize prices will continue to increase, and profits should increase for Premier and other maize producers.

Do you agree this is a good time to buy?

Shares / Why buy the rights offer?
« on: November 18, 2015, 07:11:03 am »
Good morning everyone.

EasyEquities is listing the current AdvTech shares and the Rights Offer. I currently own AdvTech shares and can buy more at the current price of R13. Why do I want to buy the rights offer at R1.60?

My question is about buy more of the current shares for sales on the market vs the rights offer. What's the advantage of the rights offer?

Sincerely
Ramon

Off topic / Water Utility as investment option
« on: November 09, 2015, 01:28:34 pm »
Good evening fellow investors. I'm a keen researcher of ecology and one of the topics that sparks my interests from time to time is the so called "Water Wars" that's coming. Dr Vandana Shiva has written a book about it. And in a recent TEDx Talk, the speaker Aii Mufuruki, made an off-the-cuff remark about the shortage of fresh water globally. And the area around Lake Malawi, Lake Tanganyika and third one, contains 30% of the world's fresh water.

Anyway I can only think of Rand Water, which is a private utility along the lines of Eskom but privatised somehow. So my question to all you wise wizards of the stock markets is this: What companies own directly or indirectly a water business? I want to invest in them long term.

Shares / Pinnacle Holdings in 2015 and beyond
« on: October 08, 2015, 12:54:50 pm »
So read the history of this company on this forum is interesting. I used to work in IT industry from 1997-2003 and still keep tabs on certain companies and people. This group generated a health R509 million in cash in the last financial year. This is a very healthy sign.

Does this company derive most of it's income from inside or outside South Africa?

I'm a South African who moved to China in 2013. Earning RMB as a currency makes me smile because the exchange rates has gone from about ZAR 1.8 to ZAR 2.2 over last two years since I arrived.

Anyway someone referred me to itradedata.co.za website a while ago when I asked for suggestions on a tool to track stocks, do research and easily access financial ratios and other important indicators for value investing. This is great for SA listed companies.

My question is what is the best central place (website or software) to track JSE, LSE, New York, and perhaps Hong Kong stock market? Your advice would be great appreciated.
