What is the main diff between DBXus and the Coreshares S&P 500

apart from the difference in costs which is a major reason i guess to take this up over DBX

DBXUS has an extra 120 companies if I am correct ... is this a positive or negative in anyway

What would your views as a decent income growth ETF vehicle for SA?

DIVTRX
CSEW40
CSTOP50
NFEMOM

Patrick , i like your idea of not picking single stoicks for fear of being wrong :) what would be your choice here? i remember some past discussions on here talking about DIVTRX ... is this still the preferred SA ETF?

hey Hamster .. what is NON???

Fully agree on your point and my view is if you taking a broad top 40 approach of all equally weighted stocks i think you might miss the growth of some real standouts

CSTOP50 looks better with 10% Naspers holding better than the 20+ STXIND has ( As much as i love NPN , too much is a bit risky ! )

NFEMOM also looks good with resource heavy but should we get downgrade later this year and US raise rates i think these companies will come under pressure right ?

Is an equally weighted option not more of a balanced defensive stance?

The tip on DBXWD is great and 100% agree and for my SA based TFSA this is my offshore component, just looking for the best SA equivalent!

Great info and discussion though.... thanks!

Patrick as always.... a rock solid dissection :D

This is very clear once explained  this way and makes a lot of sense and kind of what i was looking for , thank you

Printing this out and sticking it on the fridge!

regarding Unit trusts having same TER as ETFs ... i am sure its coming ( some guys like coronation and others are trying to capture this ) but still some way to go so I am going to be sticking to ETF's for now!

Did you ever manage to take everything offshore? the $ growth should start seeing some reen now with the Pravin G episode starting today!

Got you

however if you paying 0.5 % for an ETF because you are fee adverse but then reinvesting the dividends and paying .25 % ex vat on the dividend amount say once a year when reinvesting

Doesn't it makes sense then to look at some options that are managed and charge say 1%  and all dividends automatically invested?

I guess it comes down to why you use an ETF and for me it was always cost based , but just find I am spending more having to always reinvest than i had initially thought!

I like the idea of my investment compounding , do you think its a strong positive to have this done automatically and included in a TER annual fee ?

Thanks Patrick

thats really it for me , if you getting charged 0.25 ex vat each time you reinvest your dividends ( maybe you do this once/twice a year? )

Then perhaps the argument that ETF vs Funds (especially since many TER costs have been reduced to sub 1% ) because ETF is seen as the cheaper route is floored?

Hi All

a real investor 101 question here!

For SA portfolio I am using Easy Equities portfolio and from what i can gather it is not possible to reinvest dividends

This means when I reinvest myself I pay more costs which in the long run costs the investor more and you lose the compounding effect

Does anybody have a way around this ? are there any investment products which automatically reinvest all dividends?

interesting!!!! thanks for sharing

was that in my remark to DBXWD or DBXUS ??

I have an intuition of something similar and this is why i would like to include a weighted SA market index tracker into the portfolio to catch that

My question was if DIVTRX was perhaps a better vehicle than CSEW40 ( BBET40 old ticker )  or does anybody have another example of something good to stick into a TFSA that can track the market of SA?

Hi Orca

Thanks as always and yeah for sure , never taken as solid advice... just great to get some different opinions!

My fault ,CSEW40  is the correct code and it had a name change 5 months back so before this was BBET40 which has longer history. For me this was a way to get the top 40 equally weighted so i dont have all my investment sitting in Naspers and other top players

It's basically for a LT TFSA .... i am looking for something that can track top SA companies ( do already have a smaller position in Mid cap index )

For the international play I am using DBXWD but also thinking of going more for DBXUS

I have CWE40 in my LT TFSA as the SA market play ( offshore is in DBXWD )

I have been looking at swapping CWE40 out to DIVTRX

does any body have an opinion on this?

interesting, thanks!!!

so for example you invest 100k , after 3 years make 150k

10K becomes taxable as CGT ?

how would you take advantage of this yearly? the buy and sell element.... i just dont get that part ?

@ MR Dividend

If anyone is interested this my new small long term portfolio to eventually get the tax free portion of CGT every year - yes, I am learning!

What do you mean by this ?? tax free portion of CGT every year ? i also want t learn :)

@ Orca

any reason why DIVTRX over CSEW40 or NFEMOM ? would love to hear why you lean more towards that

interesting

also been looking at NFEMOM

I use CSEW40 as my main vehicle ... have a bit in STXIND which i will probably phase out at some time

I never did understand the rebalancing on CSEW40 and if there are any charges in the rebalancing

Please let us know if you find out any further info!?
