Anglo American Platinum Limited is currently finalising its results for the year ended 31
December 2013 (“the period”), which will be released on SENS on 3 February 2014.
Headline earnings per share (“HEPS”) for the period is expected to increase to a profit of
between 480 cents and 590 cents from a loss of 562 cents reported for the year ended 31
December 2012 (“the comparative period”). The increase in HEPS is primarily due to higher
sales volumes and a favourable Rand/US dollar exchange rate. This was partially off-set by
weaker US dollar metals prices and one-off restructuring costs amounting to R1,457 million
(after-tax R1,049 million, equivalent to 402 cents per share) and a higher effective tax rate
resulting from an additional provision for tax in respect of prior years.
Basic earnings per share (“EPS”) for the period is expected to improve to a loss of between 495
cents and 605 cents from a loss of 2,558 cents for the comparative period. Basic earnings for
the period include one-off items including a R2,814 million (after-tax R2,026 million, equivalent
to 776 cents per share) write down in the carrying value of various projects and other assets as
a result of the implementation of the restructuring plans; and the loss on the acquisition of
properties amounting to R833 million related to the Atlatsa Resources Corporation (Atlatsa)
refinancing transaction. There was no tax impact arising on the loss on acquisition of properties.
The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not been reviewed and
reported on by Anglo American Platinum Limited’s external auditors.

Pretoria. – Die Mededingingskommissie dring daarop aan dat Foodcorp sy Glenryck-handelsnaam en diepseevisvangkwota aan ’n derde party verkoop voordat hy ’n samesmeltingstransaksie met die voedselvervaardiger Oceana sal goedkeur.
Foodcorp is bereid om Glenryck te verkoop – die gediversifiseerde voedselgroep Bidvest se Bidfish Namibia stel belang en wil die handelsnaam uitbrei – maar die haakplek is sy sardynvangkwota.
Oceana wil Foodcorp se visvangkwota behou om sy plaaslike visvangs aan te vul sodat hy nie soveel op ingevoerde sardyne hoef staat te maak nie.
Volgens Oceana het die totale toelaatbare Suid-Afrikaanse kwota die afgelope jare soveel gedaal dat hy met oorsese kwotahouers en verwerkers kontrakte moes sluit net om in die plaaslike mark se behoefte aan Lucky Star-produkte te kon voorsien.
Tans maak Glenryck en Lucky Star gesamentlik sowat 80% van die plaaslike mark vir geblikte sardyne uit.
Die samesmeltingsplan sluit ook Foodcorp se inmaak- en vismeelfabriek in en Oceana is bereid om al die werkers by die sardynverwerkingsaanleg te behou.
Foodcorp se kwotaregte vir klein diepseevis is reeds deur die departement van landbou, bosbou en visserye aan Oceana oorgedra omdat daar glo probleme is met Foodcorp se swartbemagtigingstatus, maar Oceana het nog nie die gepaardgaande visvangpermitte nie.
Adv. David Unterhalter, SC, namens Oceana, het gister in die Mededingingstribunaal gesę dit is onverstaanbaar waarom die kommissie nie die voorgestelde ooreenkoms (dat Bidvest Glenryck koop en Oceana die visvangkwota verkry) wil aanvaar nie.
Die voorgenome transaksie, waarin Oceana Foodcorp se primęre vissery-afdeling vir R445 miljoen wil verkry, kan skipbreuk ly indien die kommissie op sy voorwaardes aandring.
Dit sal beteken dat sowat 1 000 mense by Foodcorp se sardynverwerkingsaanleg hul werk kan verloor sou Foodcorp sy visafdeling sluit.
Die Mededingingskommissie voer aan so ’n transaksie sal mededinging in die mark beduidend verminder of keer en dat dit belangrik is dat ’n koper ’n sterk handelsnaam besit en ’n voldoende visvangkwota vir klein diepseevis het om doeltreffend te kan meeding.
Volgens getuienis sal Oceana nie die kwota klein diepseevis kan vang wat by die aanleg verwerk moet word nie en kan die werkers steeds hul werk verloor, selfs al gaan die transaksie voort op die kommissie se voorwaardes.
Die verhoor duur voort.

For new people, you wonder why would they bring out a sens anouncement when the share is suspended. Telling you shareholders are advised to continue exercising caution when dealing in the Company’s securities.
Years ago I had Quicko shares, it was suspended at 6c. I recieved a letter from some brokarage company offering me 3 c a share, I phoned my broker and he said do not reply or take the offer. Couple of weeks later it was unsuspended and opened at6c. I think I sold at about 13c
