The only positive I can think of now is that I've taught my two boys the total opposite of myself. They have been trading and investing since pre-school, literally. When I picked them up from school, they took my tablet with live trading and said: "So Mommy are we long and short and when do I close?" - they handled it from there like a boss. They are super aware of world economy, saving and compound interest and absolutely despise the idea of financing. Maybe I'm not so bad after all.
Frikkin awesome, good on you, I have been trying that with my kids since they were small, but all I got right was my son plays online with me when I play Guildwar2 and now overwatch, and my daughter follows me on twitter.

According to this formula, 90 points are allocated on price and 10 points for BEE status, which means a BEE firm can charge 10% more and still get the contract. Under the current rules, a 80:20 formula applies to contracts below R1m, so allowing BEE firms to charge 20% more and still win the tender.
I am more and more in favour of the above, as the Chinese is F%$#ing us up, we are loosing more and more contracts which is getting placed in India / China due to the low prices.
But I do not agree with the statement above, the 10 points does not mean your price can be 10% higher. Some tenders have 70 points for Technical compliance, does that mean my price can be 70% higher, no. WHat piss%s me off, is they ask you for your BEE certificate , and then let you know they placed it in China, why the %$#

@ gcr, I agree, I do not measure myself against the JSE. I set myself a goal every year, 2 Figures in rants, for Port 1 & port 2. And I try my best to get there. I actually want to add a reward system, if I get there do something to reward myself for the work I have done, if I do not make it is the question, how do I punish myself .. 
I actually also have a checklist that I check every month to ensure I follow a routine, i.e.
Daily Update. Gold/USD etc.
Sens announcements – Daily (Twice)
Make a periodic reappraisal of all your investments to see whether changing developments have altered their prospects.

My account shows % total growth since I bought it, per share, that is what I keep eye on, see "Pulverized Sand Box "
What the market does is important, but what your individual shares are doing is more important, if you down 5% and market is up 10%, then you are in say commodities, if the market is down 5% and you up 10%, then you in commodities.
If u wanna perform same as market the ETF people and fund trackers on this site will tell u which ones to go for.
But if u wanna do it, every Monday put your figures (share price showing Share growth) in spread sheet and put in JSE index showing growth. Next Monday put it in again and you will have it vs JSE.
but u gonna beat it some weeks and some weeks the JSE will beat you, depending on which sectors your shares are in.
