Be wary of doing this with your own private portfolio - you could be seen as a trader and SARS will bleed you dry

It may have been better to put funds into retail than PPC - the construction industry is going to take maybe years before it fully recovers, also construction normally has a number of subcontractors so there is always the problem of social distancing and any outbreak on site will shut the site down for a minimum of 90 days. I think industry will take at least 2 years to get to a reasonable production level and a return to semi normality. However in the SA market you have the debilitating government to contend with where it is riddled with fools and thieves

According to their fact sheet they have 15 billion - yes billion shares authorized of which 13.7 billion have been issued
Be wary - be very wary
No amount of consolidation of shares will make this company relevant in the greater scheme of things

The Investor Challenge / Re: How to create a firm financial foundation
« on: November 19, 2020, 01:05:16 pm »
My route was simple - I went into banking starting at the lowest level ex school.
Worked in every single department and worked my way to management levels.
Got friendly with work colleagues in the share department, bought shares and read the ticker tape a good few times a day.
50% of my 13th cheque or bonus were plowed into my share portfolio annually until I retired
50% of my retirement package went into a 32 day investment account (which has only been added to over the years) and 50% was trickle fed into the stock market
To me there are only 2 caveats for investing in the market (knowing the management team and their business history) and looking at the share price trend of the business over 10 - 20 years
There were a few other criteria which I adopted and revised/reviewed over the years

My considered opinion - steer clear of this business
I invested in the company way back in 2005 when they started with their feeding parcels foe school children.
However they never made a success of this business and always seemed to have excuses as to why they didn't make a success of their business.
They have tried to reinvent themselves numerous times and yet their share price reflects their successes.
I originally bought in at about 6 to 10 cents a share and ultimately bailed out when they went to 3 cents a share which was eons ago

There are far better other companies on the JSE - try SHFF if you want to be a risk taker

Hey GCR, it's hard coded into the system to automatically block shares under R1. It would take ages to code exceptions in, but they'll reappear as soon as they hit R1.
Ahh the vagaries of hard coding

Thanks Shi - I'm aware of that but I do hold some in my portfolio and I want to buy some more - the share should rise above R 1 as they get to grips with the fiasco - which could happen before year end and I want to speculate on the ride to above R1

What's your forecast gcr? Worth a punt?

yozzi - I hold Steinhoff in my private portfolio and have been buying this counter over time where my average cost is 99 cents. The shares are cheap if one looks at the companies within Steinhoff group, I'm speculating with these shares in both my private portfolio and in this competition. They also have some astute directors so its a bit of a wing and a prayer buy and may take a good few months to recover to above R 1 and beyond
So speculative investing here - hoping they shoot the lights out - just wish Jooste would go to prison for his carnage and hopefully Wiese will wear an orange tie from now on just to show his involvement in the company

Mr Div - without being mercenary it may be a good time to buy in either of these countries as a result of covid 19. I was looking to buy in France but with this virus knocking my local portfolio by about 25% it is not possible to sell off now and still make up my losses on a small portfolio balance

I suppose it could work but here a conundrum which I can't get my head around.
Your pension is based on your income earned and is normally reserved until retirement age - are you going to draw down the equivalent of 3/4 days pension per week translated to a monthly figure? :'(
