I came across a comment on another website where a guy mentioned that he had sold all his shares and put the money in cml to invest for him

Maybe he was talking about one of the CML unit trusts. The returns have been quite good for the Coronation top 20, 31% over the last 12 months, 80% over 3 years:

Glad I didn't buy earlier, looks like prices are back to where they started today...

At the moment all players are within the rules, but as tgg said earlier, it's not really within the spirit of the game.

Edit: Lets give it a little time. From next month the profiles will be open, so we can see who invested well and who is misusing the system. In any case, there's likely to be a fall from the top as quick as the rise to get there.

For next year there will have to be a filter to stop people from buying shares they generally could not, I'm still looking for a decent way to get those numbers. Is there a list somewhere of total monthly volume?

these competitions have always had a issue in the past where someone buys shares that are not very liquid, e,g . If I had bought selco with all my money I would be 131% up today.

but that not be a true reflection as they hardly trade and there would be no hope of me selling or realising my profit.

Should you not have a cap on purchases related to the shares average volume

Back on this issue again since we have some unrealistic numbers on top of the board. What if we had a minimum share price allowed for purchase. A value of R1 (just an example, could be anything) minimum would stop the really un-tradable penny shares, but still allow some of the altx board like OLG which actually does trade. Only for next year though...

Hi Patrick, tried to add to list, doesn't want to accept 'ANG' only takes LDT & amount.

ANG 24 May 0.50c

Thanks Moneypenny, I've fixed it and added ANG. Weirdest thing, two lines of code simply vanished! I must have been sleep-coding again  ;)

Excellent but short-lived, sorry P :o

Short indeed, but I've just freed up some more cash to buy, it'll hopefully be in my trading account by tomorrow. I just need to try and anticipate which day would be best to buy. Any tips from the sage of shareforum  :D

The Investor Challenge / Added Satrix INDI to the leaderboard
« on: May 23, 2013, 09:24:54 am »
The INDI has been the best "fund manager" for a while now, so I thought it would be interesting to see how it would rank. I've put it in and backdated the purchases to the closing prices of the opening day, and the first trading day of May.

Shares / Does anyone here gear their investments?
« on: May 22, 2013, 08:49:49 am »
I know the traders do it all the time, but what are the thoughts on gearing your investments? My access bond has funds available at under prime, I've been considering for some time putting into either an ETF or just adding it to my unit trust account.

Obviously the risk here is that the market takes a dive, and at the current levels I think it's too expensive to consider this. Perhaps I'd be better off holding into it, and in the even of a big correction i could use it to double down.

This was the first actual share I bought, I'd only held unit trusts up to that point. Of course it immediately dropped after I purchased making me doubt the whole move from UTs to shares, but my other purchases have done better. Anyway, good increase in the dividend today, so it may be a good share to hold purely on that value.

Latest numbers are:
Revenue up 7.8%
Free cash flow up 24.3%
Dividend up 60.7%!

The only concern I have is the increased competition it's going to be facing from Cell C (specially with Knott-Craig at the helm), and Telkom with some very competitive data packages coming out...
