I'm a huge fan of Warren Ingram, he just makes sense. These commonalities are very similar to a lot of the points mentioned in The millionaire next door, which is a great read, but if you're in a rush the wikipedia page does a great summary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Millionaire_Next_Door

If you don't have anything invested yet, a good place to start is probably in investing in things which save you tax. take a look here: http://investorchallenge.co.za/lets-all-be-guilty-of-tax-avoidance/

It's all about retirement annuities and the new tax free savings accounts. You'll struggle to beat those two with normal investing, especially as you're new. My advice would be to steer well clear of buying any individual shares as a new investor. Actually I normally recommend even seasoned investors steer clear of it, and have some of that information in the blog too.

Might be off topic here, interesting site, but even more interesting to me is that it shows South Africa's population as decreasing? And apparently has decreased since 2014. I never would have guessed, but according to the figures it's due to the net migration of 147 000 plus people. Yikes! I wonder if this count illegals coming in to SA. I'm guessing not.

Yes, actually I have to agree with that. Most people won't save unless their is a gun or a lawyer pointed at their head. But as Mr Div says, there are far better places to save.
