Maybe next year, if the moderator allows, we should have a technicals shootout against the fundamentalists.  ::)

Well Moneypenny, why don't we see if we can help the forum members with our technical skills. Anybody can place a chart of a share and then we give our technical commentary. Let see if knowing the technicals can give those that trade on fundamentals an edge. Just to prove that technicals has it's place in shares.

The only rule: It must be a candlestick chart and I guess a daily chart will be fine seeing that it is sloooooow moving shares

You guys want to give it a bash?

That hammer earlier was rock solid as a buy signal. I have to ask, as you pointed out, we have an evening star to go short. What do you do? If you sell you are seen as a trader unless of course you have held the share for 3 years. So what do you do? Do you keep the share and just hope for the best or do you sell?

No. I don't trade shares anymore. I can't wait 3 years to make a profit! I trade futures.

Neil firstly, you subscribe to their service and get the software. You don't pay for the service and then they kick you out the door.

Secondly, a heng of a lot of okes subscribe to them. What if those okes have an edge or angle that you don't have and it could have made a serious difference on your bottom line?

Thirdly, how can you say something is rubbish if you have not even tried a 1 month subscription. What do you have to lose? What if the service they supply is pretty good? I say, don't byte it till you have tried it. I will put my head on a block that they can bring value to the table. Do you really think that okes would put their own money on something that is a fly-by-night product?

Let's put it this way. Say you learn just one thing from them or their product and that leads to an increase of 10% in your profits or helps you from not losing money, would that not have made it a pretty good "investment"?

I say again. Contact them and attend one of their show and tell seminars.

I don't know guys. I see a lot of signals in ORCA's chart. Yes fundamentals are important but heng, if the market gives you stuff on a silver platter, why ignore it? I will tell you what I see in the chart.

Just before the gap there was a drop. The candle formation right at the top is an engulfing red candle, engulfing a green candle. I would have traded that short if I could via a  CFD and would have put my stop at the top of the red candle. At least that was a signal that price might drop. Further down that drop their was another red engulfing.

Right at the bottom there was what I call a shark. Have you seen a sharks mouth open? It's red. Look at the bottom you see a red candle swallow a green candle completely. I would have exited my short or would have bought the share at that stage.

The gap is a continuation gap. That was buying force and if you know candles, a gap in this case (especially shares), creates a support level.

I see 2 Highwave candles at the tops. Normally highwave candles indicate a change of direction. It's when the bears and the bulls are sort of in limbo.

And lastly, when the gap closed we got a piercing pattern at a bottom on a resistance level. I would have gone long there. There was a lot more signals but I am tired of typing.

I hear what you are all saying but knowing your candle formations that is a reflection of price, just can't be ignored.

Shares / Buying shares from a friend?
« on: February 20, 2014, 09:06:04 pm »
I have a friend that needs cash and I am interested in buying shares that he has. He bought it for R10 per share and the share price has fallen down to R8.00 per share. I have time to wait for it to climb back to it's previous highs. He does not. I am offering him R8.10 per share and he is willing to let it go.

Is it possible to do a direct transaction from him to me?

No Orca, you got it all wrong. Attend one of their free seminars if you can. Send them a mail and tell them you are interested and when are they having their next show and tell. As far as I know you don't pay for the software. You pay the private individual membership fee. You don't even have to go for the full membership upfront.

Complicated software, I promise you that it is not complicated.

I am registered with Cambist. I am interested in the cellphone contracts. I think it's a good investment opportunity and has proper checks and balances in place. As far as I can see, the biggest risk is the government poking it's finger in the pie. Risk wise, well even shares on the JSE take a nose dive.

Peer-to-peer: I have looked at it and decided to register at Rainfin. I will go in very very carefully for the reasons mentioned above. 30% Interest. If it works that would be magic. Oh by the way, it exist in South Africa. https://www.rainfin.com/zaf/eng/Home/About

Here is another ZA website that tickled my interest: http://www.investmentnetwork.co.za/business-proposal. There are some really really great possibilities on this website. One startup that really caught my eye is this oke in Cape Town. Read about his products. I can't see the world being without them. http://www.medi-tech.co.za/#!news/cb84

I am not sure if this is the place to put it but there are alternative investment opportunities out there. I just want to gauge if anybody has ever investigated or invested in any of these alternatives?

Rare Earth Metals

Shipping/Tank Container Management

Purchasing debt- and other contracts (oh please before you go ballistic, did you know that their is a company that finances the taxi's via the taxi unions for example and that you can invest in them?) The only shame I have is that I did not know about them 20 years ago!

I am surprised that nobody on this forum has ever mentioned Powerstocks. These okes put their own money in their analysis first and then open it to the public. No it's not like any of the other share related websites that I have ever seen. These okes started their analysis about 5 years ago and developed share trading strategies based on principles that is used globally. They looked at the okes that made the big bucks and applied those theories to the JSE. They have a lot of strategies and they keep improving on them. Read their website www.powerstocks.co.za.

This is the truth and I have cut it from their website:

PowerStocks Research is the first (and as at 17/01/2013 the only) JSE Technical Analysis (TA) research firm that uses JSE market breadth, available to the private investing public. We started out as a private investing club that conducted unique quantitative research for their own JSE investment purposes. The need for this was borne out of a lack of local public research on the topic of Strategy Indexing (mechanical stock picking methods), and quantitative breadth-based Market Timing Strategies specific to the JSE.

Guess what, the okes were so good, that Sharenet "bought" them however, they still do their own thing. Guess what? These fund managers, even they subscribe to Powerstocks!!! Why pay a fund manager if you can do it yourself?

Aha thanks guys. Yes I knew that the divvies were taxed before I received it but thought since I did not physical receive it and moved it like when you move money from one RA to another RA the tax could be delayed.

And another question - Is there any benefit what so ever if you sell shares after retirement, after turning 60? This is your "pension" or part of your pension.

Orca, that 33.3 % you mention is it still the same percentage if you sell all your shares after turning 60 (retirement)?
