The Investor Challenge / Re: Best portfolio
« on: November 13, 2013, 02:04:36 pm »
In line with this thread, we could have a best portfolio award for the year based on members voting. I would suggest the following:
- nominations are put forward by mid Dec
- top 5 is voted on by everyone
- winner decided by end Dec

What do you say?

I haven't had much time to look at the best portfolio, but just a comment on SuperVan's ... about 30% of the portfolio is taken up by CZA FGL and FWX, all of which I consider risky investments - so for me it doesn't take top honours.

Question for the forum: Given that the initial investment to date is 1.1 mil, is there an ideal number of shares you would consider for a portfolio of this size (which also lends to the idea of what max percentage of the total portfolio any one share can be).

I'm with jaDEB here. Use the competition to see what playing with penny stocks does instead of using real money. Some people want the experience and don't listen to others - they want to do their own thing.

Yes please Patrick. Bottom line is that even though it is within the rules of the competition, it was an unrealistic trade. So, please undo the FGL (18c) trade.

PS: RAC ... Patrick please note that there is an offer on the table and it looks like it will be taken out by Grindrod.

Any thoughts as I'm not familiar with them? Std Bank recently gave a TP of R15. Currently at R7.  :P

I got this notification of this during the day via the Std Bank alert emails. Still can't believe it, but its true. You will also see on the Sharenet site, the low for the day.

Given your disclaimer on SaiyanZ's portfolio, I would suggest that you delete this trade. It is an unrealistic trade.

Any views on this one.

Low PE, 50% discount to NAV, making money and things looking on the up.
Institutions selling (too BEE partners), construction out of favour.

Not sure what to make of this one

Orca your prediction about CML not going higher seems to have been off. Consequently, other than one share wonders and the penny share fakers, you're currently the accepted leader...

Agreed   :TU:

Surprising that there are so many "one share wonders" in the competition.

Just been browsing thru some of the portfolio's and I think it would be beneficial to start another topic to discuss them (one at a time of course) - what u say. For example, out of the top 5, 3 members only have 1 share. Not good practise in reality but it is working for them.

Fee is 100 bux. Runs until end Aug.

Nice prizes ... disappointed that it is only for the top 3.

Poor marketing.

Interesting rules:
- Participants will only be permitted to purchase or sell securities equivalent to 50% of the actual number of securities traded on the JSE during any day.
- Once purchased, the security must be held for a minimum of one full trading day before it may be sold
- To qualify for the prizes all participants should have traded each month for the duration of the competition with a minimum of 5 transactions.

Already got a short list of what I want to buy next week when the next 100K becomes available. Hopefully they stay where they are for a little while longer.
