Off topic / Stealing my airtime.
« on: January 21, 2014, 06:35:18 pm »
I have an old Symbian Nokia C6 that I use for voice and WhatsApp only on prepaid. Never used it for internet as I have a Tablet and laptop for that. It is a stupid old phone with a small screen and I think it is still the old Edge thing.
Yesterday the airtime balance was zero strangely as I don't recall getting a warning ever. So I bought a R12 voucher and immediately received an sms stating that R12 was installed. Then bought R55 via cellphone banking and got the conformation.

Checked balance and it showed R55. Where did the R12 go in 5 minutes?
Today it shows a balance of R40.91. Only sent and received one WhatsApp short message.

Phoned 155 and was told that it was the phone updating apps. WTF. Never had this before. The guy said it showed Internet....Internet....Internet.

How can this be possible. Wonder what the balance will be tomorrow.

Shares / My retirement blog.
« on: December 13, 2013, 07:25:56 pm »
Into my second month of early retirement and loving it. No more alarm clocks to wake me at 04.30am. Spent most of our time cleaning and clearing all the crap we accumulated over the years. Not done yet as we now have to get rid of all the DVD's, cameras, cellphones and other bric n brack. Perhaps Cash Crusaders next week.
Our landlord has given us till June latest to move out.

I have not yet had to sell shares due to the divies and the R10k the buyer of my business pays me every month. May will be the last payment. Then it will be selling shares for a living.

I have worked out that I can sell R70K of CML shares without any tax and will add to MTA. This is peanuts as I hold 30x more in CML. As much as I would like to sell most of my CML holding, I cannot as I bought it at 24 odd and it is now around 80. I have not held it for 3 years yet so will not be tax effective. Not that CML will tank soon but I think she will flatline.

Off topic / Malema pleads for jail term.
« on: December 10, 2013, 07:17:21 pm »
Malema tweeted today after being upset by not being asked to say a eulogy at the memorial service. " People must treat me the same way that Nelson Mandela was treated".
Within minutes, Evita Bezuidenhout tweeted back." Very good idea. Now lets start with the 27 years".
Another tweet stated " OK now we can bury you on Sunday".

Off topic / Selling my shop woes.
« on: October 23, 2013, 05:24:05 pm »
Turns out that the guys that made the offer don't have all the cash. Offered me 50% upfront and the rest over 6 months. Quite tempted but need to think what can go wrong.
I've had it on the market for 6 months and this is the first offer and I discounted it by 20%.
If I do sell it to them, I will get a contract drawn up by a lawyer that states that if it has not been fully paid in 6 months it will revert back to me.
Any ideas on what can go wrong or what else should I do?

Off topic / VOIP question.
« on: October 16, 2013, 04:01:01 pm »
I don't have wifi so used to call my kids in the UK using GoogleTalk once a week. Now it has changed to some other name after updating it and only does messages or video call. The voice only is gone and it is too expensive for video call.
Downloaded Skype and see that you first have to buy €10 "airtime".  I suppose you pay for internet as well as the airtime.
Any suggestions?

Shares / Metair. Titan or Titanic?
« on: October 10, 2013, 03:44:05 pm »
http://www.moneyweb.co.za/moneyweb-investment-insights/are-these-shares-the-future-titans

That was posted by gcr I think.
Written on 7 Oct and today their acquisition SENS lifted the share by over 6%.  Acquired a battery factory in Turkey for R2.2B. This will add capacity to their Rombat green stop/start plant in Rumania.
Surely a future Titan. All cars in the UK and US must use these batteries in 2 years time.
They have ®© on their sophisticated batteries.  MB and BMW are on board already.
Now to wait. Bought at 2480.

Off topic / E-Cigarettes
« on: October 09, 2013, 06:44:44 pm »
Quote. "Ann McNeill, a professor of tobacco addiction at the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London, said the findings should persuade health experts to embrace e-cigarettes as a useful weapon in the battle against smoking.

"Electronic cigarettes are the most exciting new development in tobacco control over the last few decades as we have witnessed a rapid uptake of these much less harmful products by smokers," she said in an emailed comment.

"The popularity of e-cigarettes suggests that we now have a product that can compete with cigarettes, thus heralding the first real possibility that cigarette smoking could be phased out."End quote.   :TU:

Been vaping e-cigarettes for 27 months now and am pleased to have found the above on Reuters.

I actually find no diffs with my monster Lavatube and Innokin. The taste is exactly the same as REAL cigs except that there are no carcinogens or stuff that can kill you.
E-cigs have become a hobby to me now to the extent that I do my own liquid mixing and build my own coils. Costs me R2 per day now compared to R65 pd.
Over the past few months I have seen an increase of e-cig users openly vaping in restaurants and in malls.
I feel great that I have succeeded to get 8 people to quit tobacco permanently.

Off topic / Fish Hoek murder.
« on: October 02, 2013, 07:05:00 pm »
This murder is the talk of CT lately and I have the misfortune to know this dysfunctional family. They name their daughter Phoenix Rising Cloud Theron. Yes, they were Hippies and she stayed that way till her death. A very pretty woman she was.
Unfortunately her "Rising Cloud" daughter went onto hard drugs after meeting her boyfriend and this lead to her death after an argument.
What really hurts me is that I saw her every day taking her small sister to school every day as if nothing was wrong. Then my wife's pal extended her condolences to her on her missing mother and she said. "Yes. My mother always said that she will become a "free soul"when I am 18".
She is 18 now and a murderer.

Shares / Living off Dividends.
« on: September 24, 2013, 08:15:20 pm »
We all know that divies are almost tax free but to live off the divies alone is almost out of our reach as one would need at least R2.3m in high divi stocks to actually earn enough.
One site that I found stated that they only invest in high divi Co's and do a great 100% in Divies over an 8 year period. This equates to 12.5% pa on Divies alone.
My R2.3m will give you R24K pm less the tax.
Now I have not checked but wonder how STXDIV performs to my calculation above.

I think I will get some flack with this post.
I was trying out an acoustic programme some time ago for my guitar on the computer. While I was recording it my daughter, Kim was asleep on the couch as she always is.
On Playback while I was listening to it I heard this in a loud whisper kind of voice. "Kim sleeping".
I played it over and over and it was HER voice. She was sleeping. I played it back to her and she was astounded.
Strange but true.
Since then I have had more anomalies happen but will not discuss them here.

Shares / Past performance and future?
« on: August 04, 2013, 07:11:26 pm »
Past performance is a good indicator of future performance.

I started a thread on this years ago on the other site and it became very busy with many pages of negative posts condemning my method.

Now looking at the top performers in the Leaderboard, I see that the top guys are using this method!!! And by the way, I am waaay ahead with using the same stocks since inception using this method on the other site.
Perhaps not for TKG or BIL. They will not last long. They are still negative on the long term.

That Past Performance thing that you always see on all financial websites is only there to protect themselves.

Shares / PNC
« on: July 01, 2013, 03:38:56 pm »
Another great stock to have in one's portfolio is Pinnacle Technology. An unstoppable, high growth Co. with forward thinking management at the helm.
Their frequent acquisitions will ensure long term profitability of the Co. The most recent one was 30% of Datacentrix which they acquired last month and paid R237M in cash. In Dec. last year they acquired JAG Engineering.
Here is a 3 year chart that compairs it to CML.
