The Investor Challenge / Taking gambles peeves me off.
« on: November 06, 2015, 11:54:38 pm »
I wonder how many contestants in the competition would actually buy the stocks for real.
I do as I am managing other peoples money. Taking a gamble will send you either to the top or the bottom. But as I said, it is a gamble for shear desperation of winning the competition and no consideration of money management for clients.
Perhaps I got it wrong and misread the whole intention as stated.

Shares / Something is stinking in the state of China.
« on: August 12, 2015, 09:43:26 pm »
We all heard that China devalued the Yuan yesterday and once again today. They did not only devalue their currency but devalued the world markets with it.
What makes me worried is how they artificially inflated their growth since the 2007/8 collapse. They built whole new cities with high rise building with malls unparalleled in size anywhere. Today they are all empty of people as they cannot afford the prices. 64 Million apartments are still empty in these new cities.

Is this why they reduced the import of copper and iron causing the price drop in these commodities? They have stopped building these cities and this may be the main cause of the stagnation of the markets of late.

Am I crazy or what? Here is a video of these empty cities.

As I am done hyping CML now, I will start with a new one. PGR. The next CML.
CML seems saturated now and PGR is following it's big brother's footsteps but has the advantage of being more diversified in doing hedge funds and can make money in down markets for clients.

As shorting is not as lucrative as as longs, I was a bit hesitant to chuck my money at it due to the current market conditions but on further research, I was pleasantly surprised to find that in her first HY 2014 that she has to beat at end September, she made a great HEPS increase of 44%. During this period the market was negative as shown at "A" on the chart below.

This comparative period still has 3 months to go and the market is at 0% gain and not negative as shown at "B".
That is enough to convince me that her HEPS will carry on up in any market.
This is by no means advice but purely for discussion albeit only with myself.

Shares / What would you do if you were exempt from tax?
« on: May 27, 2015, 06:37:18 pm »
I have just received a letter from the Portuguese IRS that officially exempts me from tax. Now I have been racking my brains trying to think how I can take full advantage of it but can't think of anything really.

What would you do?

Shares / Why do stocks go south?
« on: May 13, 2015, 12:11:41 am »
This is one reason why I prefer the INDI. For no reason, this superb company Omnia that had been performing so well for many years just out the blue went out of flavour. My "go with the momentum stocks" that I swore by has been proven wrong. It works for a while but eventually succumbs.
At least I admit it and the INDI seems to always prevail despite corrections.

Been watching Novus since listing yesterday and got me thinking. How is trading initiated if there are no sellers yet.
Does the company sell x amount of shares at a fixed price and then let it run?

Op slag kak ek my beste linne in ‘n herfs kleurskakering in. Nou weet ek, nou sal ek flat out moet hol vir daai Doom. Ek pluk my enigste halfnat Jockey aan sodat die aambei my nie pootjie nie. Toe trek ek weg kombuis toe dat die briekmerke soos ‘n straatkaart in my Jockey vergader… en ek 10 sekondes by die kombuisdeur moet back paddle om nie twee agterdeure te hê nie. Lord of the Dance se gat my bra! Terug….. Spuit hom leeg! Duik my harige vyand soos Ryk Neethling agter die bedkassie in. Agt oë soos Beetle wheelcaps kyk my vierkantig in my twee ogies. Nou’s dit nag. Ek verlaat myself, my water breek, my knieë swik, my longe loop leeg, my lippe parteer van mekaar. Ek beskuie my weer sonder enema. ‘n Kreet verlaat my binneste, ontsnap oor my trillende lippe.

Off topic / Problem reading Flashdrive on android.
« on: September 03, 2014, 04:21:42 pm »
Before we moved to Portugal, I downloaded all my docs on a flash drive. Now I want to print them but I don't have a computer. What I do have is this----

Android tv Stick with spare USB port plugged into my TV. The tv has USB ports as well.
A wireless printer paired to the tv via the printer wireless app. It works as I have printed pdf, xls and pretty much anything off the net.
The tv has Adobe Reader and ES Office downloaded.

Problem is that when I plug the USB flash drive in, it sees the media files on the flash drive but not the xls or pdf.

I also have a tablet but can't find a 32 pin to USB adapter here. Pretty sure it will also not see the documents. Any help out there will be appreciated.

Making money with RHPS is a myth. I started off with subscribing to this junk when I saw their brochure.
They start with this hypothetical explanation of how you can retire within 3 years with a minimal amount.

1. Had you bought shares in X at 20c on this date, and sold 6 weeks later, you would have made a gain of 180%.
2. Now, had you bought Y at 55c with your gains from above and sold 12 days later, you would have made a further 70%.
3. You have now made 250% profit in 54 days. Now if you bought Z with all your profits at. ......
This carries on until you could have made thousands of percentage points profit.

Looking at the charts that they also add in the brochure, you will see that all the Buys and Sells are at the very low and very high points. So it is hindsight and hypothetical.

So I started off with Alert steel. Recommended by them to buy but not when to buy.
Took me many days to find a seller at my price after increasing the buy price a few times to attract the fish to my bait so to speak.
What a disaster when I tried to sell at a profit. Took me 3 weeks of constantly shuffling the price to eventuality sell at a loss.

Needless to say that all their further "tips" went in the round filling cabinet at my feet.

Off topic / Anyone doing internet TV?
« on: March 17, 2014, 06:00:52 pm »
To get TV in English in Portugal, I would have to get Internet TV so I have been researching it for some time hence my absence here.
I was surprised to see that many South Africans have dumped their DSTV for internet TV.
Netflix and Filmon seem quite popular and can be free if no adds. Cost is the uncapped DSL internet and line rent. Much cheaper as you need internet anyway.
My biggest prob is what connection method to use to watch them on a dumb TV.

Router via WIFI to HDMI port WIFI dongle on TV.
HDMI out of my laptop to TV HDMI in port via cable.
Get an Android HDMI dongle to turn my dumb TV into a smart Android TV.

The Android dongle comes with a remote but cost is around R1 600.00.
The other methods are cheap at R350.00 but you need to get an app from PlayStore to use your smartphone as a remote.

Eish. So many methods and still dunno what to do.
