I love Simon Browns method as I have used his method for years quite successfully and am now using his recommendations rather than my own as he is very much more knowledgeable than stupid old me.

Perhaps good dividends are great but consistent erosion of the capital is not.  PREFTRAX has been in a decline since it was registered on the JSE.

We must also take into consideration that SARS will not tolerate the fact that Co owners and CEO's pay themselves with dividends that are taxed at a very much lower rate than income tax.
This will soon come to an end as it has indeed been the case in Europe.
Dividends may well be taxed as income next year.

To get back to the question. I cannot figure why anyone would want to invest in bonds for the long term. Cash would be better and ETF's like DIVTRX. STXIND would blow his mind, I would think.

Newfunds Govi has averaged around 5% pa over the past 5 years with interest reinvested. The last time I looked, the cash on the JSE was at 5.65% pa.
Newfunds Govi has some negative months and can do 9% in a year which it indeed has but cash will not go negative.

We are not financial advisers so cannot give advice. Each person has their own goals and circumstances so we merely discuss stocks to narrow down our search of the 400 plus stocks available to us and make our own decisions as to what suits our circumstances.

My personal goal is to make more than any ETF can offer for capital gains but also need some stability in a passive ETF such as the DIVTRX. This was discussed by Patrick and it fitted my profile so I advised myself to invest 55% of my portfolio into it. I hope you understand what I mean.

Your need of monthly income will be better discussed with Mr_Dividend as he might tell you what works for him and then you can advise yourself if it will work for you.
Good luck.

\\In accordance with the investment policy of the ETFs, the distribution has been re-invested on behalf of
investors via the purchase by the ETF of additional Constituent Securities, or Index Constituents for
NFTRCI, (as defined in the relevant Portfolio Supplement) in the appropriate weightings, thereby
increasing the net asset value of the ETF and, proportionately increasing the value of each ETF security.\\

I thought they would pay you in shares as they do in the UK but on further reading, I see that the interest was added to the price of each share.
I am interested to know why you bought this as it hardly beats inflation. Cash would be better as you would not have market crash issues to worry about.

Further to the announcement published on Thursday, 2 July 2015, a distribution has been declared today,
Friday, 14 August 2015 to holders of ETF securities ("investors") recorded in the register on Friday, 24
July 2015, for the month ended 31 July 2015 as follows:

                                                                         NFGOVI
Cents per ETF security, comprising of Interest        28.13900

It does not pay dividends. The interest earned was re invested automatically. You would have noticed that you now have a few more shares. Do not forget the withholding tax on interest.

Not quite. They can suspend trading until they find a "fix" to appease the traders. This is not uncommon. Greece was the most recent country to do this and it worked for them. Many countries suspend short trading in times of crises and this halts the traders from taking advantage of severe corrections from attenuating the fall.

The NYSE has said they will suspend trading if the S&P500 dips 7%. The better than expected growth results out in the US today makes this unlikely to happen.
This chart below shows that we should have seen this dip coming as the spacing between the dips are uncannily similar.

@P. Could you possibly correct my spelling of Peregrine in the subject/topic line please. I must have pressed the "e" and "r" together by mistake.

Seems like they were hedging against a possible market collapse and not against the company's performance.
@Broke. People who actively monitor stocks ultimately end up wealthier than those that do not. :TU:

Traders always remind me of soccer players. A mere brush past their shoelace sends them rolling across the whole field.
Greece has been forgotten and then they all pointed fingers at China as the culprits.
Soon China will also be forgotten and a new culprit will be found. The next best bet is to pick on will be the oil price. Nothing else will come to their minds yet.
An ongoing saga of investing.

I somehow think the traders will take profits on Wednesday but with the good gains today they would have done so already. Lets wait and see.

I noticed DIVTRX corrects mismatched price before open hence the gaps in the candles. :)

If buffie switches to cash now then he has as good as won the challenge. Perhaps he is a competitive person and is competing against himself for the 100% mark. :TU:
