Shares / STXIND vs DIVTRX
« on: December 10, 2015, 08:01:08 pm »
Today the STXIND was up by 1.6% while the DIVTRX was down by 4.7%.
Some may think why this happened as the two have been following each other trend wise with the DIVTRX doing somewhat better over the past year and a half and now the sudden downfall of the DIVTRX.

The 2 ETF's hold different stocks in their portfolios. The STXIND is only in industrial stocks while the DIVTRX is not. The INDI is overweight in SAB and NPN while the DIVTRX is overweight in Banks and Financial Services, the hardest hit sector today.

The industrial sector will never go out of favour as it is the heart of any country's growth. Charts have confirmed this.

I am now doubting if I made the right decision to put half my money into DIVTRX and nothing into STXIND.

I have nothing to say but its getting cold here now. Siberian snow geese migrated a month early signalling an early cold winter. The longest in 50 years.

I have just spent over 2 hours researching this but come up with nothing.

This does not sound correct and will need further research. As far as I know, the fund manager of a collective scheme buys and sells shares all the time but you will be exempt from any tax.
Should you sell your UT or ETF within 3 years, you would be taxed as Income.

I think the author is confusing the above.

Note: If you have a Capital Loss, you must ADD the R30K to the loss. ie. Capital Loss = (100 000.00) ADD 30 000.00 = (70 000.00) This cannot be offset against normal income but only future capital gains.

@Patrick. It will be a good idea to sell half before end Feb and another half soon after as you will then have a R60k total exclusion.

Read the listing prospectus where they indicate that the shares they issued to the sellers have certain conditions attached to them. Conditions like only being able to sell a small percentage of their shares after a certain time. Many ppl think this is keeping the share price down. These conditions are still in place for at least 3 years (IIRC).

Then dump it in batches. A Fed interest rate hike this month will hit property stocks and devalue the ZAR against the Dollar.

And what is the reason, always thought we were mostly resource driven - what's pushing it up?

SA was resource driven but not anymore.

Great looking chart. This is the reason why I keep my investments in SA while many of you guys want out.
Emerging markets are the place to be. In fact 40% of the JSE stocks are owned by foreigners.

I cannot fathom why you would even think of investing in a stock that has been in a bear mode for so long. There is no indication whatsoever of a reversal fundamentally or technically.

Look for stocks that have good fundamentals and have an upward momentum. Not down.

In my experience, I have found that stocks that have great fundamentals and good upward trending chart will carry on up for some years.
CML was a good example.

It has been proven that long term, upward trending stocks will carry on upwards for some time. This has been very successful for me so far and I suggest you dump this one.

HEPS down 9,7% compared to previous reporting period and ex divi today. This is not too bad considering the market turmoil. I expected worse and the price to drop to the mid 50's so my personal feeling is that it is oversold at this point.

She was carried up over the years by momentum investors going in for the ride but they have abandoned ship so don't expect her to shoot the lights out soon. I sold at around 8700.

MTA retracted due to the attempted assassination of the Turkish Prime Minister and the conflict with Russia.

Metair has acquired Dynamic UK for R31M. Dynamic is a battery reseller and distributor in England and parts of the EU.
Dynamic was supplied by a SA firm Altron that is listed on the JSE but will now be supplied by Metair's Turkey and Romanian factories. This will give her a stronger foothold in the EU for future expansion.
This is bad news for Altron as they had a R60M loss at last report and sold parts of Altech and has now lost Dynamic.

Four years ago, I had a long on gold with no SL. I got stopped out by a margin call and lost my entire $10k. Strange why he did not get stopped by a margin call.
