Shares / "Rights Issue" and tax?
« on: July 26, 2017, 11:05:11 am »
My IRP3b shows the shares I received for a rights Issue under "Corporate Action" and not under "Purchases". How is this treated by SARS? I cannot find anything on this.

I was born in Finland and never had SA citizenship. My wife is South African but as she emigrated officially, the proposed tax law does not affect her as she is no longer an SA resident. Her primary home is here in Portugal and she is registered for tax here.
It will only apply to SA tax residents working abroad.

Chris Hart predicted the zar to get to 20 against the $ by year end 2016. Did not happen.
Last week Moneyweb stated that the zar is in a confirmed downtrend. WTF? ZAR continues to gain as long as Z keeps his mouth shut.

I have not looked at mine in ages. Too volatile and unpredictable thanks to politic.
Watching News24 is like watching a soapy. A new scandal every hour ffs. It will take years of court cases and repeals and reviews after reviews to get back to normal.
I doubt if there are enough judges and courts to deal with the sheer magnitude of the corruption.

Zuma, Gigaba, PP Busisiwe Mkhwebane and Zwane are competing on who can
destroy the SA markets the most.
SA market up 1,9% since January while EM's MSCI index up 17%.

I have always been positive on the ZAR strengh and will continue to do so. There is always doom and gloom with politic interference but so far the zar has done fine despite this interference. I may on the long term be wrong but who knows? Scroll to the right.

Strangely my shares improved today as I have not been watching or even researching stocks for the past year.

 CIL up 5.2%

PGR up 4.00%

ZAR/EUR up 1.04% today.

I am blessed or crazy.

Staan sterk Orca!

The power of prayer is so strong yet few people believe in it yet when it happens to them or family they will resort to praying. Believe you me.
I have never prayed in my life before until now.

The sheer amount of people praying for her is unbelievable. Even here in Portugal from people we don't even know.

I have on 2 occasions seen my wife's vacant eyes staring at the ceiling and a deathly gaunt look in her face and told the kids to prepare for the worst.

She is now Whatsapping me and the kids saying she is "good".

Not out the woods yet as the pneumonia and most infections have healed but she still has cancer.

My stocks have been flat for 2,5 years and this has not been good as I have to withdraw R30k every 3 months for living expenses.
The upside is that the FX has increased by 32%. So not bad at all and I expect it to increase. Perhaps the Zar to 12 or even 10 as it is undervalued. Politics may change this as we all know.

As to my wife... I still have to pay for my apartment in Viana that I have not lived in for 2 months as I had to live in 3 hotels and 2 holiday apartments at a huge expense.
This is about €40 per day for 2 months plus €740 for my vacant flat.

My wife had a cardiac arrest and recovered after 8 days in ICU but pneumonia has set in and she is in a critical condition. She was doing so well until today. Sadly, I'm expecting a midnight phone call.

I took a calculated risk to keep my money in rands. I am not gloating about it but I did warn about going into USD many months ago.
