Now Moneypenny has moved above me temporarily so has jaDEB. Patrick has finally broken through the Indi resistance level and is above it. Hopefully he will have support now at the Indi level. He was there long enough to create good support. :TU:

I know these things. Any advice as to your position in the competition, don't hesitate to ask. 8)

Me and Moneypenny running neck to neck. Helloooo down there jaDEB. Patrick too far down to hear me but I see he has been struggling to break through the Indi resistance level for some days.

2015
No prob Patrick. Yes, it is 8.30 pm on Saturday night and still downloading my contract notes for provisional tax. I will be done by Sunday.
I must add this and need your input.
My accountant quoted me R3k upfront that I paid her with another R3k upon closure.
My account is very complex due to trading and is backdated to 2008. So 6 years to reconcile.
Some days ago she handed me all my docs back saying that she is not familiar with JSE trading and the complexity of my account and asked me to do 2012 tax myself and come back to her with my results.
She had a taxable amount of R530K for 2012.
With the kind help of a CA I understood the method and spent 2 weeks doing all my tax from 6 years ago. I now have every year in files with the tax payable for each year.
Now that I have done it all for her, do you think that the other R3k is due?

And then MY brokers recommended to sell CML when it hit 4250 just before the AUM SENS when she started her real upsurge. They sold off their 25% holding on their Managed Accounts.

After reading my post, I'm disgusted with myself and my investment skills. Could have been cruising the oceans with R10m in the bank now instead of working to make a living.
Can't wait to get home and have some sorrow juice.

I think Patrick is talking about me here.  :frustrated:
Managed account that lost me 45% during the crash. Me taking over with only one share in 2009. CML of course.
Selling her at bad news and timing the bottoms to get back in. Over nearly 5 years I made about 320% gains. Had I just stayed in I would have made a whopping 1200%. Yes, you read it correct. 1200% without divies reinvested.
Brokerage fees around R70k pa. Now the tax..............Eish. :wall:

I did say that I have been feeling sick lately but will recover soon and start running up again. Geez. Can't find Patrick anywhere around here.
jaDEB, put your parachute on.

I dunno now. Breezed through my 2013 to 2009 and came up to a problem. I went from front to back. My 2008 was a Managed Account and they split my account. One in the old and then a new one that I never knew about. I had no access to it. R33k was transferred to into it with 4 stocks and no indication of any Sell ever. Only Buy in the old account. SARS will want to know about this. "Burp"

But surely a portfolio could consist of two parts, one part being long term investments and the other short term, i.e. trading
That is the way to go. Split the 2. I never did and will pay for my mistake.

Forget it. Your gains will be added to your income at 100%. I still have a prob with trading stocks ie. If you stop trading the stocks for 10 years, SARS will still consider them as "Trading Stocks".
How to get out of this, I don't know. I believe that if you change your stocks from Trading Stocks to Investing Stocks, you must consider your stocks as SOLD at some point and pay gains at 100% into your income. This is "Change of Intention" clause.
I need more clarity on this.

Open stock. Yearly trades. Closing stock. Wieghting costs. What a shambles. Took me a week to attempt 1 of 7 years then gave up as did my accountant.
Had a couple of coronary events and infarctions before TheImposter on the other site came to my rescue. He is a CA and did my 2012 tax in less than 5 minutes for me.
Today I did 4 of the 7 years so only 2 left. What an easy method. :TU:

I now realize that most accountants do not understand complex trading accounts if they themselves do not trade or experienced trading tax like mine.
Brokers seem to use a standard program to simplify tax. You must just know how to use it.
