Why did they both tank and recover at same time?
Results came out the same month.
PNC's results was lower than the previous year and selloff was overdone as Datatec profits were not yet included.
MTA's results was also lower and she tanked until the SENS of the major acquisition came out and she shot back up.

Where's the CML :D

Naah. CML has become too dicy. Made her good run for years and perhaps will continue. Who knows?

Today I deposited the proceeds from the sale of my business into my broker account and will be buying OML.

Looking at that comparison chart above, PNC performed the best overall. Had the ZAR not weakened, she would be over 400%. She will procede as soon as R10 to the $ becomes the new normal and her new acquisition adds to her profits.
STXIND is a stable 30 percenter and with OMN added to it for that extra boost is all I need in my retirement portfolio.
MTA made a massive acquisition that will add plenty of alpha from December. This will be a 140% + pa stock for some years to come. Once the loan for the new plant is paid off though. Stock of the year for 2015.

What interested me was that they're managing funds to the tune of half the countrys budget of 1trillion rand

That makes it difficult for them to buy due to the huge amounts they have to shove around. Buying off market and making acquisitions will be the way forward.
Was pleasantly surprised to see that buyers are still bidding large amounts at end today. Perhaps we will not see that 7300. Tomorrow will tell. I don't see that 140% pa happening again though.

So, jaDEB. I presume your real name is also Darryl.  ^-^ Bread is gone for long time now. Perhaps sitting on a street corner with a hat between his legs. Homeless due to his attempt at 1 share portfolio. Win big or loose big.
Do you remember years ago when I started the 1 share thing with my CML? It attracted a huge audience that carried on for at least a year. Everyone shouted at me to diversify and called me crazy to punt my pension money into 1 share.
I took a calculated risk and Bread took a risk. When his floundered, he ducked.
There are not many shares you can do this with so I wish you well.
Pity you did not use OMN or wait for MTA to get into gear.

Seems like investors got spooked by that and started banking profits. Wonder where it will turn. Hope she stops at the bottom BB. If not, the 7300 area seems a likely support level.

The TOPI has turned and seems to be headed to the 3950 area.

Spectacular results not to be repeated easily. The CEO did say that the high earnings was the result of the market being at a cyclical high.
She should perform well until May when the next results come out. What happens then if the earnings are less is anyone's guess. I will be watching the ALSI's performance until then. If the ALSI performs well, then so will Coronation.
CML has evolved into a trading stock and has become somewhat more volatile over the past months as traders get spooked rather quickly and overly so. This will cause an overreaction if results are not as good as expected.
Nevertheless, the fund managers will continue to beat their indexes and keep attracting institutional funds but this may be a problem. The higher their AUM gets, the more difficult it will be to buy the less liquid mid caps and will be forced to change to the lower performing large caps. That may mean the end of the 140% pa she has been doing lately.
I still believe she is a long term hold but will revert back to her 65% pa gains at best.

Buying and selling property is trading for revenue and will be treated as such.

Nios. OCE is not a trading stock because it is not liquid enough. Charting will not always work with her but she does have respect for the 200SMA. Look on the 1y chart and you will see that she always bounces off it. The 200ma is as low as a stock can go as below it is a Sell signal as it normally carries on down.

Where can OCE go from here? Only up. She will bounce off the 200sma. See that gap she has left behind?

Part 2 as I am still bored.

The occasional sale of a share within the 3 year period does not always make you a Trader in shares. SARS states that "One swallow does not a summer make".
I would not personally enter a once off sale as a trade. I will go for CGT. Chances of a query is small as most e filing is computerized and no human gets to see it. Only if you consistently buy and sell will the sophisticated program raise a red flag for human intervention.

Now that I'm bored, I will expand on that.

If you are selling within the 3 year holding period you are a trader and the method of calculation is the same as if you have a business.

Work out Cost of Sales.
Opening stock at cost. ie. Carried over from previous year.
Add any new purchases at cost.
Less Closing Stock at cost.

This will give you the cost of your stock that you had for sale in that year.

Work out your gains.
Total Sales at cost less the above Cost of Sales.
Now you have your Gain.

Now in E-Filing.
In the Trading Section.
Fill in the Sales and Cost of Sales.
Deductions. Internet costs, subscriptions, etc.

Source Code is 2514 as you made a gain.

Done. Any queries, ask Moon. He is our residential Tax Expert.
