Well the the question you need to ask yourself is: Do I want to pay Capital Gains Tax? If you dont want to, and you have a long term investment horizon (5-10 years or more), then leave it where it is, markets are volatile by nature. If you have a short investment horizon (less than 5 years) then definitely move it to something safe, like a dollar denominated Gilt fund or something like where your risk is low and you are getting a real return of greater than 1% or so.

When I say "long term investment horizon" I mean that you are like 30 years old where you only plan on using that money in the next 20 years or so. "Short term investment horizon" I mean that you like 55 years old and you look to use that money in the next 5 or so years.

I use standard bank online share trading. But I am personally looking to move because the platform is quite dated, and I HATE THE MONTHLY ADMIN FEE OF R60, especially since i dont buy and sell that often and usually always end up paying it.

I looked up your EasyEquities but anything that is owned and operated by Purple Capital makes me very nervous, there have been a number of articles about them in Noseweek and other places about how they have shafted people regarding CFDs ect.

Personally Id rather stay away from them

got them at 52.76, got them when I swapped my JDG shares for Steinhoff shares when Steinhoff was buying up JDG shares. I also took up the Steinhoff rights offer shares.

Iv got a sell limit order valid for a month on them at R60 currently. I want to sell them and use the bucks to buy some RAFISA

Because a firms goal is to make a profit, and EPS represents a firms profit or loss. A business is only worth its net asset value less future depreciation, plus the sum of its future earnings discounted to the present, over a certain period.

I say sell, but obviously not for technical reasons (strongly disagree with that stuff). I say sell because most of the big counters in the STXIND such as SABMiller, Naspers, Richemont are overvalued, and will struggle to provide the returns seen in the past.

If I where to buy an EFT right now Id buy Newfunds RAFI OVERALL, much better value in there.

Why buying expensive shares are not necessarily a good thing.

I have here 2 shares from the current leaders stack.

CPI    CAPITEC BANK HLDGS LTD    338    17695    22300    26.02%    R75,374.00    12.89%
NPN    NASPERS LTD -N-                   248    100650    122000    21.21%    R302,560.00    51.76%

Lets look at this a bit closer.
CPI - Capital layout = 338 x R176.95 = R59809.10
CPI - Profit = R223.00 - 176.95 = R46.05 x 338 = R15564.90
So for an exposure of +- 60 grand you made +- 15 grand

NPN - Capital layout = 248 x R1006.50 = R 249 612.00
NPN - Profit = R1220.00 - 1006.50 = R213.50 x 248 = R52948.00
So for an exposure of +- 250 grand you made +- 53 grand

The question - Is it worth buying the very expensive shares? If this user had stuck his 250 grand into the cheaper share he would have made a total of 5 times more money +- 77 grand instead of 15 + 53 = 68 grand

That is a 9 grand difference. Both shares are good shares.

Makes me wonder if you should have a high and low price. Under a certain price you have risk and over a certain price you have profit issues if I can put it that way.

Hindsight is child's play, foresight however is very difficult.

One word comes to mind when describing those results: "Disastrous"

does anyone of sites where I can create a stock portfolio of my actual JSE portfolio in order to track it. (I dont like logging onto my actual share trading account, to monitor it, also the standard bank OST platform sucks in showing one graphs of ones portfolio etc). I know of the ft portfolio which I currently use, but it doesnt have most of the ETFs on the JSE which sucks. I know of the google finance portfolio which I recently been using which is better, but doesnt have some stock data, but im more worried of google shutting it down. I also know of the bloomberg watchlist, but you cant add a cash position, no graph, and is generally the worst i have found.

does anyone know of any others that are good that they use. I happy with google finance but as I said Im worried google will shut it down.
