WHL, SHP, BTI, BAT, TBR, TBS, ANH you can just go on and on.

Way harder to actually find stocks that have grown over the last 3-4 years bar mining stocks. Capitec? err, anyone else?

cheers Orca - everwhere else say differently. Like the tax free nature of spreadbetting but they seem to be for day trading only as the close at the end of the day and need to be rolled over and as I am more a swing trader, CFDs make more sense.

The main difference is the way they are treated for tax– spread bets are free from capital gains tax in the UK *, while CFDs are not. CFD trading is not tax free in the UK, while spread betting is. CFD equity trades ask for a commission – spread bets on shares do not.

you have a link? Everywhere I look says the above?

Futures trading such as SSF's, CFD's and FX at margin is not taxable in many countries such as the UK as it is considered as gambling. What about SA?

Not sure if I am reading this right - but spread betting is not taxed, but CFDs are taxed in the UK.

On 29 March 2019, 23h00 (WET), the United Kingdom (UK) will cease to be a European Union (EU) Member State. The Withdrawal Agreement1 will ensure the status and rights of EU citizens living in the UK and of UK nationals living in EU Member States. The Agreement also establishes a transition period from the withdrawal date until 31 December 2020.
Under the term of the Agreement, UK nationals and their family members who already are permanent residents in Portugal will be able to maintain that right. And all those who arrive before the end of the transition period (31 December 2020) will be able to acquire permanent residence status after completing a five-year residence period.
The Portuguese Government wants to reassure UK nationals and their family members living in Portugal that they are welcome to stay.

Will be interested to see if a deal is made as ::

IN CASE OF A NO-DEAL SCENARIO
As there would be no agreed implementation period, the guarantee to acquire the right of permanent residence would only apply to UK nationals who are resident in Portugal by 29 March 2019; all those UK nationals and their family members who are already in Portugal by that date would have until 31 December 2020 to apply for a registration certificate.

Obviously works the other way round as well - application in yet Orca?

Cheers for the site had not seen it, but wife had. SA is not on the english speaking countries list - we could jump through a few hoops to say, my wifes, B Tech diploma was taught in english, but might just be easier to do the test.

Anyway, will just take it easy and knock off the points one by one - try not to get stressed about it

Just to add. If one is a brit citizen and spouse is not,  you can also get in with savings of £62500 - no retirement funds, pretty much cash only. Spouse will also have to do an English test (R3700) and TB test (R1800). Then you have to jump through a few hoops proving your marriage, where you staying ect.

If they deny you the visa - no reasons are given, you must reapply at a cost of £1500 a pop. We planning to use a specialist at an extra R8000 - want to get it right first time.

Can understand where they are coming from - but the cost seems exorbitant on not giving reasons for a declined visa is just wrong.

Hi Orca - how is Wales treating you? Yes, I am a citizen - maddingly though, you, with a EU passport, got in easier - although looks like you timed it to perfection as I am sure rules will change. Will be living on the coastline in the south - probably Eastbourne - but flexible. Trying to squeeze as much sunshine as we can get :) Cheers for that Patrick

It's all stuff that interests me, but I am too cheap to pay. You almost talking NETFLIX subscription amounts! Just an idea, but the new way of doing it would be to make it into vlog format and host on youtube and/or other vlogging sites

Money is then made through ads but also affiliates and product referrals  - some also have patron accounts. The downside is that it takes a while to generate any sort of income - you really have to plug away plus you need to learn video editing. The upside is that the earnings are limitless - huge world market - plus you might have some videos that make money month in month out for years.

If you do give it a go - get your lighting and sound spot and keep the videos short and to the point- people will not subscribe to real amateur stuff - but do not expect pro stuff either.

I think the numbers dropping off has a lot to do with lackluster returns on the JSE - as JSE's own volume figures would indicate. Great idea on the S&P comp. Although it's a competition, I really compete against the ETF's - GCR all you will find is that someone will put R1.2mill into ellies or something of that nature - it will still bug you! BTW 2018 link does not work. All the best for the year. Will be heading to the UK for good this year, so packing and selling the order of the day - interspersed with mountains of paperwork.

No. But the way you've phrased it sounds like YOU trying to pump the share. Good luck!

But buying into Cell C was a massive mistake - they should try get rid of it ASAP - as they really seem to know what the doing in selling air time.

will be interested to hear about your experience. Spent a few weeks in the UK a couple of months back and liked everything about it - my wife though is still more interested in Portugal.  If we do the UK though, we would probably have to have part-time jobs - which I think could be fun.
