REGULATORY

Amsterdam 4 December 2015 – In connection with tax investigations, the
Westerstede offices of Steinhoff Europe Group Services GmbH (SEGS), a German
subsidiary of SIHL, have been searched on November 26, 2015.

The authorities are reviewing the balance sheet treatment of certain
transactions
involving transfers of participations and intangible assets among SEGS,
additional
subsidiaries and third parties pursuant to §331 HGB. The investigation focuses
on
adherence to an arms’ length valuation and proper accounting pursuant to German
GAAP.
SEGS is fully committed to support the authorities, and has begun to take
immediate
steps, in clarifying and resolving these matters.

Steinhoff International Holdings N.V and its management are of the view that on
a
global consolidated basis the above matters have been properly reflected in its
Group accounts according to IFRS.

You know, I have never invested in either unit trusts nor ETFs but it appears that both those are subject to CISS 'rules' and Section 9(c) is not relevant here, so there is no 3 year rule stuff for the individual investor. (CGT is paid within the funds and the investor is only subject to CGT on disposal even if they dispose within 3 years).
Don't know if I am correct, hence 'appears' in bold.

President Xi .. MOU's and Agreements on ZA visit.

Amongst those, one concerning NPN.

Cooperation Agreement between the China State Council Information Office and the
NASPERS Group SA.
The Cooperation Agreement between the China State Council Information Office and
the Naspers Group SA will promote and create a legal framework to improve
cooperation between South Africa and China to actively promote communication
between their media practitioners through mutual visits and exposure to local
media operations as well as co-produce or promote the co-production of media
products, exchange or promote the exchange of content of media products based on
a variety of media.

and comment by Alec Hogg..

Naspers is committing work closely with, and promote engagement between “media
practitioners” at Xi’s propaganda machine, the China State Council Information
Office. That is sure to go down like a lead balloon at 40 Heerengracht,
especially if Naspers management were to replicate China’s “censor in every
newsroom” approach. – Alec Hogg

CGT = 33,3% (not 33.33%)
The final tax due after calculating CGT which was R3 333 must be added to your taxable income. The actual tax you pay depends on your marginal tax rate.
Eg. if your marginal tax rate is 41% (currently the max.) then your effective tax on the R 3 333 is 13,65% (33,3 x 41%). If your marginal tax rate is lower,
say 31% then your effective tax on the R 3 333 is 10,32% etc.

Easy peasy.

That's really interesting Moonraker, do you have a link where I can read more?

Yes, I also thought so, puts things in perspective; less outperformance going forward I'm sure.

Download the latest 'Intuition' publication, they are generally quite interesting - and 'Acuity' which they publish quarterly.

Further to my reply #78.. Have a look..

Had you invested 100 US Dollars in each of these market Indices on
the first trading day of 2002, your current values as at 10
November 2015 would be as shown in the image.

They are quoted in Dollar terms AFTER the devaluation of the
Rand that we have experienced over the past 12 months.

If commodities recover strongly (unlikely, these cycles last a very long time), then there might be a temporary uptick. But we still have the Zuma/Davies version of economics, plus inflation differential means the Rand will not get lucky for any sustained period. Historical Xchange rate vs. $ tells it all and I certainly wouldn't bet against the long term trend.

I cannot check video's at work, (Do not ask  :-[, do not tell policy  :wall:), I am more looking at Eur/Dollar now 1.05. Can they afford for it to go to 1.00 ? or even stronger.

I always ask people the following?

Who is president of China? - Do not know
Who is president of Australia? - Do not know
Who is president of Italy? - Do not know
And so on..

Yet people think the whole world know who Zuma is, we not as important as we think we are.

China = President eleven (Xi Jinping)

Would it not be a bit risky now to assume with the dollar being so strong, that it will continue to go stronger. Do you not think that the rand should recover from these levels after US has done it rate hike in December?
Not really, remember this is what should be considered a medium to long term investment. Think back say 10/15/20 years what has the Rand done ? Sure it may recover a little but it's more likely to weaken over the next couple of years - just on the inflation rate differentials let alone Zuma/Davies economics.
Have a look at the video. I think it is good, if only to put into a portfolio for diversification purposes. Have bought some just for that purpose. Also returns from private equity investments may provide some pleasant surprises. Hope you agree JaDEB, otherwise sleepless nights.

@marguerittereed

Don't worry about what Fawkes85 says about fees. DBX trackers have no exposure to private equities for example. Best view this video, and fees .. well blathering bull sh#t.
No fireworks, but longer term - if Rand weakens - wonderful.
