BoE kept QE and interest rates unchanged.

All of Europe and US futures are green, why are we not following?  Al three my watchlists, each containing 30 companies, are red except for some gold, uranium, a hotel and SAB. What gives?

To be fair, technically speaking his statement was correct :), it is his job and he blows things up, but the grin and 'not an option for Giglio' and his choice of a file name speaks for itself. Been too long at sea sailor?

Nobody gets any points today for guessing what will drive markets ;)

The Fed was very sneaky these past few months, planting a tapering seed in investors consciousness, thus for longer-term investors it is of no consequence whether tapering arrives now or later, point is it will be here by year end anyway.

Traders on the other hand have to be especially wake-up today. One strategist summed it up brilliantly like this:

A rally if expectations are met, or
A pop, then a drop if tapering is delayed, or
A sell off on a big taper.

So choose traders, be wise and make a stand.  ;D

Four of the five Asian markets are green atm, crude oil up, gold down @ $1299, US futures still positive, SAT40 -85 atm.

10:00 SA CPI (MoM) previous 1.10%, expect 0.30%
10:30 GB MPC Meeting minutes
13:00 SA Retail Sales (YoY) previous 1.90%, expect 4.50%
20:00 US FOMC Statement
20:30 US Bernanke media

Yesterday new highs for PSG, NET1UEPS & RMB

Consensus changes for Aspen, Discover and Harmony to 'hold',  JSE & MTN to 'buy'.

Moon's F&G @ Neutral, so nobody scared yes?  VIX +1.04%

Good luck to us all. ;D

Oh that is impressive, he is one of our boys :TU:, didn't know that.  (Stunning pics)

Nicholas Sloane, 51, a red-haired, freckled South African with hands like bear paws, is steering the rubber boat around the wreck. Before him looms the gaping gash in the large hull, many meters long, where part of the rock that caused the shipwreck was still embedded until recently. Above him, workers are hovering in a steel cage suspended from the swivel arm of a floating crane. He jokingly shouts to welders who are hanging against the sloping wall of the bow like mountain climbers.

Sloane is the senior salvage master for the Costa Concordia. He studied nautical science, and with his master's certificate he could command a luxury ocean liner like the Queen Mary 2 or a supertanker, but that kind of career has never interested him. Sloane doesn't steer ships -- he gets rid of them. For the past three decades, he has been working as a clean-up man on the world's oceans, raising sunken oil rigs and cutting up ships underwater. But his job on Giglio Island is to return the wreck to an upright position and tow it to a mainland harbor -- in the best possible condition and ideally still in one piece.

Edit:

What an inspirational man. Sorry, I'm usually not easily impressed O:-) and he's old :D but something about this guy's conduct grabs me:

The phone call from Florida-based company Titan Salvage reached Sloane while he was removing a freighter from a reef in New Zealand. He had never heard of Giglio, the so-called enchanted lily island, located between Elba, Montecristo and the coast of Tuscany. He thought of Italian red wine, pinot noir, which he highly appreciates. He called his wife and asked her if she wanted to meet up in "good old Europe." Forget it, his wife said. She had seen the horrific images from Giglio on TV. A few weeks ago, though, she changed her mind and visited him with their three children.

Sloane speaks tenderly and lewdly about the ship, like an old sea dog referring to his lover. He describes how he intends to bed her on a cement mattress -- how he plans to dress her in nappies, attaching floating pontoons to her flanks. His work uniform, a white polo shirt, is emblazoned with the mission's motto: "Determination & Love."

Well, so far so good for my first two attempts (NPN & BGA), but thinking tomorrow is going to be bad, will be looking for shorts.

The wrecked Costa Concordia cruise ship was successfully righted today after an unprecedented 19-hour operation off the Italian island of Giglio where the cruise liner has been lying on its side since it capsized 20 months ago, killing 32 passengers. Video via AP.

Anybody for a glass of Chardonnay?
That's why we are moving towards R1000/share:

– Nellie Brand-Jonker Maandag 16 September 2013 Volksblad

Moon, your shadow stats or BLS-stats as they call it, are not BS but the real thing.  Just goes to show, economic data is all smoke and mirrors and that is what we trade.  I think a true purist economist will have a hard time making trading and investing decisions on a day to day basis, you have to be able to go with the flow.

I see Hong Kong unemployment rate steady this morning @ 3.30%, as is GB CPI (YoY) @ 2.7%.

Fed Policy meeting will be the main driving force this week (tomorrow 20:30), today's trading seems uninspired, guessing most investors on the sidelines and most traders waiting for good short entry points.

Asia & Europe mostly red as is US futures, SAT40 IGM -28 atm.

New highs yesterday for Aspen, Naspers, EOH, Steinhoff and Firstrand.

I've downloaded your 'How much to save to get rich in a hurry'-table and will give it a prominent space in my 'bucket list'-book.

Thank you for reminding us of these basic truths, I think most of us are either too lazy or too preoccupied to think it through ourselves.  Now it's in my memory bank and once things are there, its for keeps.

I'll invite you to my yacht for champagne to thank you once I'm a billionaire, in 20yrs time - hopefully still young enough to enjoy the moment. :D
