Google Finance doesn't always have all the tickers (well, SA ones anyway). Bloomberg quote pages and their watchlist still works the best for me.

Its a pretty poor show jaDEB.  BTC isn't anonymous and can be traced, so surely they can help out a little more than completely brushing it off?

You'll find most financial institutions rather unhelpful if you do not make use of the security features they provide you.

I see on twitter they're claiming that in the past they incorrectly paid interest on unsettled cash and now they don't. Anyone know what the other brokers do? I've never watched my ABSA account closely enough to check on that.
If memory serves, ABSA requires a minimum cash balance before they pay interest.

EDIT:
Quote
Interest on cash balances. Credit cash balances earn interest at a rate of JSE Trustees less 0.877% (excluding VAT). However, if the interest earned is less than R30 for the month, no amount will be credited to your account.

Too expensive not be a once in a lifetime event...

Busy planning a wedding...small elopement kinda event: the two of us and the two moms and dads. Costs are crazy unless you really sacrifice.

6 people wedding venue + photographer: R10,000

Because of distance we need three rooms (includes breakfast):
R3200

Marriage officer, up to:
R5000

Wedding dress, rings, plane tickets, dinner... It just adds up and getting close to R50,000 and that's using a cheap photographer.

Plan B:
Wedding dress, rings, marriage officer, just the two of us and a photographer...R40k easy.

Plan C is not gonna happen but I reckon jeans, button shirt, nice dress, marriage officer and a selfie stick :D Minister of Home Affairs said no :(

Oh and what car do you drive  ;D

Renault Kadjar (1.5 diesel). If it wasn't for traffic I'd use a bicycle so don't you go blog about it

Good post. We're planning a holiday to travel through Europe (Netherlands, Germany, Austria etc). The cash and mobile data/phone are my biggest worries

"Why add all that extra mileage to your own car when you can let someone else pay the depreciation and wear and tear bill."

Because I like my car and I bought it for a reason :p

The App is a fail from EasyEquites. Their official reasoning for doing this is so that they can push updates to the site and it will immediately be available for everybody.

The big tradeoff is user experience. If you ask me they did it this way because 1) it is cheap, 2) one less thing to support and 3) they only need the app approved once by the stores. Any future changes to it won't go to any of the app stores and won't be vetted.

The cost to develop also plays a role and, I'm speculating, but the dev house they use may not have the necessary skills (as in resources) to do it effectively.

To be honest though, who uses EE that much that they need an app for it?

Well, I buy them individually (it was modelled after mine). Never used a basket myself. On EE it's easy enough to maintain it via debit orders.

Maybe it’s better 50/50 ? Like a global world ETF and then a unit trust ?

Was asking you as I always remember having a similar view on TFSA allocation. Wanted to see if your thoughts had changed

Personally not keen on splitting it up. My view is to keep it simple (i.e. Platinum Wealth TFSA Basket ) and I don't think it gets simpler than a unit trust.

ABSA doesn't allow debit orders with auto invest functionality so you have to log into it every month. CoreShares, Sygnia etc. all allow it but... I dunno.

Unit trust please :D

I have had similar experiences and share your concern here, interested to hear where you would move the TFSA to?

If I was to stick with ETFs I would move it to ABSA. If I was to move to unit trusts it would probably be Allan Gray or maybe Sygnia but I haven't thought it through yet.
To add to this, Coronation's Balanced Plus fun doesn't look bad either. Only 20% odd offshore exposure so maybe worth supplementing it with a global fund.
