Shares / Which Top 40
« on: February 05, 2016, 03:45:41 pm »
So I've been investing in FNB's Share Saver every month from when they first started. Basically gives me equal RMBT40 and RMBMID shares every month.

So I've been looking around and I found MAPPSG - http://etfcib.absa.co.za/Products/Exchange%20Traded%20Funds/Balanced/MAPPSGrowth/Pages/default.aspx

Its makeup:
Cach (6.92%)
Equity (73.82%)
Govi Bonds (9.04%)
Infl Linked Bonds (10.22%)

Dividends are automagically reinvested. I guess no dividends tax then?

So the question is do I take out a sizable chunk (lets say 70%) of my Share Saver and move it to MAPPSG (one the EE platform)?
Do I take out the full 100% and invest in MAPPSG rather (is MIDCAP worth keeping)?
Do I leave it as it is.

I have STXIND as well...so maybe some double investments.

Shares / Why is Curro taking such a beating?
« on: January 26, 2016, 10:08:14 am »
I realise everything is taking a beating on the JSE but from R58 to R44 in less than a month....for a company building schools?!

What am I missing?

Shares / Dividend ETFs

OK so I know about the DIVTRX thread but I need help understanding something:

When I look at DIVTRX and STXIND on Bloomberg the "Last Divided" values are 27.26 and 46.06 respectively. Now going by the notion of more is better, is STXIND better for dividends? Is it just a fluke?

What do those numbers mean anyway? Percentage or cents?

Shares / Which platform to use?
« on: September 10, 2014, 10:05:56 pm »
So for the last year or so I have been pumping some money into FNB's Share Saver and it has grown nicely. Thing is that I want to diversify my portfolio and buy into other ETFs (like the DBXWD) which brings me to a platform problem.

I know about ETFSA but since I took part in the Easy Equities investor challenge I'm sort off already registered and FICA'ed. As far as I understand their jargon, the moment I own a complete share on their platform it is registered/recorded against my person on some register of the FSB...or something like that. So basically I own it even if that platform tanks, right?

Since I have access to almost everything on EasyEquities, would you guys consider it a good platform to do long term investing on?

Second question: since I own RMB TOP40 shares via FNB, will those show up on other platforms or do you have to transfer it somehow? And if that is the case what will happen if I buy the same shares on two different platforms, how will they be reconciled?

Shares / RA or the other stuff
« on: May 11, 2013, 11:01:27 am »
Since you guys generally know a bit more about money I was hoping I might get an "opinion" out of some of you.

I recently got a raise and have cleared up some debt. My only current debt is on my car which I paid a BIG deposit on. The monthly instalment is about R2000. I do not own property and not really wish to buy any time soon since I don't want to be "trapped" in JHB if I suddenly get a job opportunity in say CPT.

I've got an RA going but I contribute a minimal amount to it (just for the sake of having it). On top of that I have monthly payments into a coronation fund and recently started using FNB's share saver (which my fin advisor does not know about). The rest I keep in a money market which earns crap interest.

My financial advisor reckons I should push as much money as I can into the car and get it paid off and then up the other amounts I pay into the RA and fund. Does this make sense?

Would you rather push extra money into the car, RA, coronation fund or share saver?

Shares / FNB Share Saver
« on: May 04, 2013, 07:08:51 am »
So I opened a Share Saver account the other day just for the hell of it to see how it works etc, but I am considering pushing more funds in there.

To the financial n00b in me it looks like a "SATRIX with less paper work to get started". Anybody here got any opinions regarding this service? Is it possible to guess the % growth we can expect from it (surely there must be a similar product out there that can give a rough indication)?
