UK "OUT" voters now seeing the consequences are having second thoughts and would have voted "IN" had they known. They did not listen or attend the road shows of both camps.
Or bothered to vote

Actually, a "dodgy" thing happened.

I was updating my positions on Bloomberg and to do that I drew the transaction report on my TFSA account. With regards to my DIVTRX:

On the 19th of Jan 2016 I sold all of it which brought my position to 0.
Then, because of site limitations I made 3 buy transactions on the 25th of April 2016. All in all I had bought a total of 747.2106 shares.

But, on the account overview page it shows I only have 727.2104. I went over it again - same result. I then immediately sent an email to them to look into this because somewhere 20 shares have gone missing. (this was yesterday)

Late today I get a response back requesting I send them a screenshot of my overview page (why I do not know since they have the data). I send it to them and then check the screenshot myself - I now have 747.2014 shares. I went back to my document from yesterday to check if I had a brain fart but no, yesterday it showed 727.2104.

So end result - all is fine (save 0.0002 shares that are still missing). The question is:

* was there a data issue that they fixed?
* was this a rebalancing process on their side?
* did something more "untoward" happen?

And then the biggest question - are there any other instances like this where shares are "missing" or don't add up.

Anyway, given past experiences, I just do not have trust in their system atm and come November I'm moving my TFSA to ABSA. It's like a car that keeps on breaking down: I cannot trust their platform.

Yeah multiply by 100 to get from cents to Rands (or move the comma 2 places to the left as you say)

O.o

I wish! :D

Good day,

I am stressing a bit about the developments in SA. How can one take a lump sum out of SA or would be the best option? Would the DBX-WLD tracker be such an option?

Regards

the dbx wld will be a way to safeguard against ZAR devaluing against the dollar yes. but you cant "Draw" it out if you are overseas. thus the cash is technically still in south africa.

you can use global accounts, which should be available at most banks i think., but for now your best option is to put it into the DBX world, and then to draw out as needed- or cashing out completely should you need to skip country.

i am also interested to see what other options there are otherwise.

Your best bet unless you have sizable lump sums you can take over with a global account and invest abroad. Problem with using the DBXWD or similar ETFs/ETNs is the tax implications. You'll be hit with capital gains at the very least.

Listen to this (the part where he interview Nerina Visser): http://justonelap.com/simple-diverse-etf-portfolio/

It deals with duplicate investments etc. as well.

@Hamster

been there done that ... which ETF if you don't mind me asking?

For trading I meant, actual charting of ETFS and buying and selling when appropriate .. the outcome being all profits made are tax free ?

I bought R10k DIVTRX in May of last year, right on the high. Went downhill from there. Eventually decided to cut my losses and like an idiot I sold it when it was worth +- R7800.... a year later I have R20k worth of DIVTRX in the same account with STXIND and DBXWD absorbing that loss/costs  :-[

And just when you think I've learnt my "never sell" lesson I go and do the same thing in the Investor Challenge  :wtf:

On another note ... has anyone used their TFSA to trade ETF's ? I have two full years ready to go and super interested in trying this

If by "trading" you mean "did I sell an ETF I thought was under performing a year ago and still not made up the losses", then yes  :wall:

BBET40 is nice but there are some shares in the Top40 that deserve a higher weighting. Enter NFSWIX (or MAPPSG if you want to combine it with bonds).

Don't think you'll get a better "average" ETF than a Top40.

Would telling people in the article what ETF to buy initially be considered as financial advise?

EDIT: Oh, now that I actually clicked through all the slides I see you went with ASHT40
Good question. I didn't want to make that choice for people, but you do get some who have absolutely no clue, in which case I think a low cost top40 fund is probably as close to a general decision as you could make, and reasonable safe too. If DBXWD was cheaper, I'd probably have gone with that, but I still think 0.67% is too high. Maybe I should change the slide and mention it.

For a complete n00b? MAPPSG imo.
