So I asked about NFEMOM on just one lap and what his thoughts are regarding using it as a base ETF instead of a top40/50 and he seems to like it as well.

I'd just like to get some more info on exactly how it works (more than the basic summary). So if anybody knows where to look I'd really appreciate it.

Their similarity in performance is what intrigued me but I reckon it is just coincidence...coincidence over couple of years though :wtf:

Shares / DIVTRX vs NFEMOM
« on: September 02, 2016, 11:12:47 am »
OK, so they have vastly different approaches/goals and aren't really comparable, but I read that the NFEMOM's underlying index was changed and apparently it has more down turn protection.

I'm hoping somebody here can tell me more about it because in theory tracking stocks with momentum sounds very good. Problem is that it is rebalanced every month so if something bad starts happening it could be a while before "action" is taken. You're basically buying high and hoping to sell at a higher price just after it starts "crashing". This correct?

Reason is that I'm thinking of converting half my DIVTRX in my TFSA to NFEMOM or maybe replacing the STXIND in my TFSA with it (I actually don't like STXIND that much but I've had it from the start I never wanted to sell...).

Anyway, your thoughts please.

STXIND - how you buy Naspers in your TFSA.

Shares / Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE A BOND ETF IN TFSA ?

If I'm not mistaken, inflation linked bonds ETFs like NFILBI are not subject to capital gains tax...or something like that.

Regardless, I wouldn't bother with it inside my TFSA. Put dividend yielding and high growth stuff in there and take full advantage of the tax benefits.

BTW - I have changed my TFSA "strategy" (I use the term loosely!). Previously, I liked the idea of having decent SA dividend paying ETF's in it to get the div tax savings. So no foreign ETF's. Did poorly and actually only grew by the dividend - which I reinvested

My thinking now is go for maximum growth and to hell with the dividend UNTIL you need to draw from it and then decide what strategy works best.

looked at DBWD and DBUS - went with DBUS as DBUS has out performed DBWD on every time scale so far. And although past performance blah blah blah, to my mind, it's still more concrete than future hypotheses.

DBXUS costs more than DBXWD. Not worth it imo. I have DBXWD, STXIND and DIVTRX in mine (evenly split) and DIVTRX is outperforming them so far. Reckon I'll split future contributions evenly between DIVTRX and DBXWD.

EDIT: I see STXIND is also doing very well, both it and DIVTRX leaving DBXWD behind so far.

Personally I don't see the point of switching to DBXUS. Why would you want to lose your exposure to the rest of the world considering more than 50% of DBXWD is already in the US? On top of that it is more expensive.

Not standard bank, a couple more tries?

Just threw the most unlikely idea out there. As a bank employee he is more than likely forbidden from using any platform other than their own. The fact that you posted the question probably means this is not the case...so, answer please :p

So last night I went to an ABSA stockbrokers event and had a chat to the head of absa stockbrokers afterwards. Anyone want to guess which broker he uses for his offshore investing?

Standard Bank Webtrader?

As per OP the number was magically corrected (save 0.0002 of a share). Never took it further (no point).
