For the guys with a IB account. I see you can actually deposit ZAR? Was that always an option? Wondering what the currency conversion would be - cannot find it on the IB site anywhere (so far..)

still can't seem to find the exchange rates on IB if you deposit ZAR..

So I see Saxo Capital Markets SA is no more after the acquisition by Sasfin. Looks like it is rebranded to Direct Market Access now: http://www.dma.co.za

Shares / Computershare

Hi,

Does anybody here use Computershare at all? It seems you can get a individual custody account from them without monthly fees. But to buy/sell is on the expensive side, R1 - R40k @ R135 (I think ex vat) - but includes stt, strate etc as they bulk trade once a day I believe.

Maybe an alternative for the guys looking at another option of holding shares without monthly fees other than EE.

ok, bye.. :)

I did do some reading Willem. I started here: https://www.moneyweb.co.za/mymoney/moneyweb-tax/foreign-investing-how-do-i-navigate-wills-and-tax/

She basically claims that if you only have an offshore investment portfolio and no immovable assets you're okay with just a local will.

I've also previously seen that UCITS funds like the VWRD I own are estate duty free in Ireland, so that's another relief for me.

If you're still worried you could always have a joint account with survivorship rights in which case the account holdings transfer solely to your spouse on presentation of a birth certificate.

So in short, I'll only do a local will.

interesting, thanks.. I'm going back to my attorneys soon to talk about this

I was wondering the same. Just withdrew some cash in Madagascar and noticed it cost me more than I thought. Found wifi and saw actually the ATM was right and I was wrong :(

Awesome Madagascar.. you should hop over further to Mauritius to my house for some rum :)

quick q.. have you managed to sort out a will yet for this? As I understand you need a specific will covering this (ex-SA).
I wasn't aware that this was the case, I'll have to do some research on it.
Hi Patrick, out of interest - have you done some research on this yet?
