Any input as to how the markets will react if/when the FED announces no rate hike in October?Could stocks get abit of a bump?

This is all assuming there won't be a market crash before then,
September is crash month so I am abit worried.

I'm abit unclear on something.I have read the Tax guides .Let me give you a basic scenario.

Tax exclusion is R30 000 for losses or gains from stocks.Since I will have(and will continue to) paid tax on my income separately in the country I work,I presume this will be seperate.

2014- I make a loss of R50 000.

Tax exclusion              R30 000
Net loss                      R20 000

2015-I make a net profit  of R50 000 on Stocks(trading),commodities,Forex etc.

Tax exclusion                               R30 000
Net Gain                                      R20 000

1.In 2015 I will have made a tax free profit of R20 000.Is that right?

2.Its only possible to offset that loss to the following year, not any other consecutive year.Is that right?

My luck with stocks has not been great.I am thinking of buying a house/flat and renting it out.i would possibly stay there at some point but not at the moment.

However,Im not sure if housing is in a bubble at the moment.Any thoughts on this?

Also,is buying property in SA a good idea given the state of the country regarding crime, poverty, corruption and so on?

What are the pro's and con's?People always say "you can't go wrong with property".

Got a few questions.

1)Where is a good resource to get up to date info and discussions for GOLD,silver and other precious metals?

2)What is the best way to invest in gold/silver/platinum(coins/vaults)?Also,what platform can I use to do so?

Off topic / Re: Anyone doing internet TV?
« on: August 16, 2014, 04:32:11 pm »
Has anyone actually ditched DSTV in favour of internet tv?

I have read some threads on this forum regarding the topic but I am still somewhat confused.

I am just about to purchase a new T.V and a  DSTV decoder and Dish.
I was investigating getting internet tv,but it seems that in general, its just not very reliable in day to day applications.

The main reason for getting DSTV will be to get the sports for my dad who isn't very internet savvy.

We don't have internet at home so that will be used sparesly at home if we get ADSL.

So I have 2 questions.1.Should I buy an older non-smart tv, with a DSTV package(decoder etc) or a more expensive smart tv with the option of using internet tv in the future?

2.Is it worth getting ADSL and streaming sports and movies?

I don't mind paying subscriptions for netfix, hulu and maby a VPN. And.And then getting it setup.

However,my dad is not internet savvy. How hard will it be to choose and watch content from someone who is not savvy with technology after the whole setup is completed?

How reliable is it to stream sports and movies and so on in real world applications?
For some reason I can't post on mybroadband.co.za.

Are returns better here than in other countries? It seems inflation erodes allot of profits here. Also,my understanding is that the stocks are also overvalued here.

Am I on the right path,or missing anything?
