Shares / Dividends and ETF's
« on: May 29, 2014, 08:16:55 am »
Guys where can I get a list of all the ETF's in South Africa that shows the best dividend paying ETF? I can find a list for shares but not for ETF's.

Shares / Hmmmm, my 2 cents worth
« on: May 21, 2014, 08:15:21 pm »
Why buying expensive shares are not necessarily a good thing.

I have here 2 shares from the current leaders stack.

CPI    CAPITEC BANK HLDGS LTD    338    17695    22300    26.02%    R75,374.00    12.89%
NPN    NASPERS LTD -N-                   248    100650    122000    21.21%    R302,560.00    51.76%

Lets look at this a bit closer.
CPI - Capital layout = 338 x R176.95 = R59809.10
CPI - Profit = R223.00 - 176.95 = R46.05 x 338 = R15564.90
So for an exposure of +- 60 grand you made +- 15 grand

NPN - Capital layout = 248 x R1006.50 = R 249 612.00
NPN - Profit = R1220.00 - 1006.50 = R213.50 x 248 = R52948.00
So for an exposure of +- 250 grand you made +- 53 grand

The question - Is it worth buying the very expensive shares? If this user had stuck his 250 grand into the cheaper share he would have made a total of 5 times more money +- 77 grand instead of 15 + 53 = 68 grand

That is a 9 grand difference. Both shares are good shares.

Makes me wonder if you should have a high and low price. Under a certain price you have risk and over a certain price you have profit issues if I can put it that way.

Shares / A Dividend question
« on: April 13, 2014, 08:35:11 am »
Is there a website anywhere that will give me a summary of shares that pay dividends with the following information:
Share price
Dividend information
and most important, how often and when normally based on past payout dates.

Why - I want to build an income portfolio out of dividend stocks. Bugger the growth. I want a dividend income every single month for 12 months per year. To me it's all about cashflow!

Yes I can go into every stock/ETF/ETN and go and look at this on a chart but what a slep! Surely there must be a website where this is logged?

Yes this site does help but it does not have past dates and how often - http://www.topyields.nl/Top-dividend-yields-of-JSE.php

Shares / Technical Analysis - Maybe the "techies" can help you?
« on: March 07, 2014, 07:51:48 am »
They say knowledge is power. I mentioned that some forum members are "strong" on technical analysis. You can place your chart in this thread and we will give comments about what we see on your chart.

DISCLAIMER!! We do not at anytime say that you should buy a share based on our analysis.  Don't be silly. We do not say that technical analysis is the alpha and omega. We do say that it has it's place in analyzing what to buy and when. Do your home work. We just want to help you make a more informed decision.

By placing a chart in this thread you agree to and understand the above. Is that clear?

Specifications:
1. It must be a candlestick chart. Green and red candlestick charts are the best. The patterns we analyze are in the candles. Next to reading the ticker tape of price, candles is the best.
2. The shorter the time frame, the better, as patterns appear in an hour chart that you might not see in a daily chart.

Now let's see if we can help you make a million bucks!

Shares / Buying shares from a friend?
« on: February 20, 2014, 09:06:04 pm »
I have a friend that needs cash and I am interested in buying shares that he has. He bought it for R10 per share and the share price has fallen down to R8.00 per share. I have time to wait for it to climb back to it's previous highs. He does not. I am offering him R8.10 per share and he is willing to let it go.

Is it possible to do a direct transaction from him to me?

Shares / Alternative Investment Oppertunities
« on: February 20, 2014, 06:19:02 am »
I am not sure if this is the place to put it but there are alternative investment opportunities out there. I just want to gauge if anybody has ever investigated or invested in any of these alternatives?

Rare Earth Metals

Shipping/Tank Container Management

Purchasing debt- and other contracts (oh please before you go ballistic, did you know that their is a company that finances the taxi's via the taxi unions for example and that you can invest in them?) The only shame I have is that I did not know about them 20 years ago!

Shares / Income Portfolio Question
« on: January 21, 2014, 08:04:17 am »
If I buy property shares like Redefine or any other reits type share that pay out quarterly "dividends", will the payout be seen as dividends or does the payout not fall in the category as dividends?
I want to create an income portfolio. I am not so interested in growth as I am in getting regular income.

Guys I am not so clued up on all the shares so give me advice. I am all ears.
