Dear Investors, I need your help to make a small contribution to my crowd-funded film project.

This is the film project I'm developing to share the story of Jesse February, a chess champion from Port Elizabeth. Recently this project was featured in the Weekend Post newspaper.

== PRESS STATEMENT ===

Film-makers in Nelson Mandela Bay have launched a new crowdfunding campaign. Crowdfunding allows people to contribute small amounts via the Internet to reach a goal amount for projects. They plan to raise about R25,000 for a documentary about Chess champion, Jesse February from Port Elizabeth. The money will be used to cover additional interviews and post-production costs. In 2013 some preliminary footage was filmed at the annual Uitenhage Chess Festival.

The director and producer, Ramon Thomas, started filming in 2013 after completing a Video Production course at The Media Workshop in Port Elizabeth, now known as AFDA Film School.

"Jesse is an amazing young woman and she leads by example," says Thomas. "She travels overseas every few months representing South Africa and I want to tell her story to the world."

Even former-president Jacob Zuma was an avid chess player and supporter. He opened the Commonwealth Chess Games with grandmaster's like Gary Kasparov at the Boardwalk, Summerstrand, in 2013. All these events have contributed to the development of a story rooted in Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth, also known as Nelson Mandela Bay.

The funds will cover additional filming and post-production costs. The film will be distributed via Youtube and Vimeo, free to the world. And it will be submitted to film festivals worldwide to raise awareness of the unbreakable spirit of Miss February. If you're unable to make an online contribution, feel free to contact Mr Thomas on +27814399555 (WhatsApp).

Shares / Does GT247 support JSE Equity CFD trading?
« on: May 21, 2018, 10:22:58 pm »
About two years ago I decided to sign-up to GT247 thinking they allow equity trading using CFD instruments. They had their own app at that time. As you may know they now use Metatrader 5.

Anyway, it seems they don't support JSE Equity CFD trading, and only support Commodities, Currencies, Indices. Please help me confirm this, and also recommend an equity CFD trading company.

Shares / US investments via Easy Equities - What is the split?
« on: May 10, 2018, 07:21:51 pm »
My split looks like this
ZAR Equities: 37%
USD Equities: 10%
TFSA: 53%

A lecturer from my BSc days in Port Elizabeth told me a while ago to move everything to the US. I am thinking of moving up to 50% of my funds into the US account. But what is your split for the USD account and how much do you plan to keep in SA vs US on EE?

Good evening Bevan

Greetings from PE. I would love to visit your smallholding in Hogsback, so I can understand and learn from what you are doing. My own goal is to set up my living conditions to become much more self-sufficient and moving away from supermarkets.

The following book inspired me in this direction: The Freedom Manifesto - How to Free Yourself from Anxiety, Fear, Mortgages, Money, Guilt, Debt, Government, Boredom, Supermarkets, Bills, Melancholy, Pain, Depression, Work, and Waste

Looking forward to it.

Shares / Avoiding Sagarmatha Technologies private placement
« on: April 10, 2018, 10:32:25 pm »
After reading that Jim Rogers is a consultant on Iqbal Survé's new venture, I've lost all respect for him. Business Day ripped them to pieces and I quote the introduction here...

The full extent of the destruction at Independent Media since the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) placed the company at the disposal of Iqbal Survé has been laid bare — ironically through Survé’s outrageous attempt to use other people’s money to plug the R2.3bn hole in his media balance sheet.

On March 28, a company 73% owned by Survé’s family trust issued a remarkable "prelisting statement" inviting selected investors to subscribe for a "private placement" of shares ahead of a planned JSE listing. The company is Sagarmatha Technologies, a grandiose reference to the Nepali name for Mount Everest, and the statement represents a desperate bid to portray it as a hi-tech start-up in the mould of an African Google or Amazon.

Shares / Re: Tencents / Tesla
« on: April 10, 2018, 09:21:47 pm »
Tesla has yet to make a profit. Even though I'm a fan of Elon Musk, the fundamentals don't look good, especially after the SolarCity buyout. I'm a Tencent shareholder and my portfolio has gained about 30% in 12 months. At one point it was close to 50% and has cooled down since. This company generates serious profits every quarter. They are also one of the most prolific investors in other startups in China, as well as major deals with US companies like Tesla (the purchased 5% in 2017) and Spotify.

Shares / Why Engaging with a Newbie Broker?
« on: April 10, 2018, 09:06:05 pm »
Here's my advice to you: Do your own investments, and share your experiences on a blog or even better, your LinkedIn profile. This way, I know you follow your own advice. Blogging can build your credibility and allow people looking for a broker to find you. It will take time but it pays off over the long term.

The #1 reason I don't like brokers is that they are salesmen who recommend products with the highest commission, not what is in my best interest. Listen to Tom Leykis show's Money Monday segment.

Good luck,
Ramon

Shares / Where is my Daily Interest from Easy Equities?
« on: March 06, 2018, 08:01:15 pm »
Last week I sold all my shares in Pembury Group. I have not received any "daily interest" on Friday, Monday and today. That's three days in a rown.

Easy Equities have not replied to my support ticket sent yesterday. This is very unusual, especially since they moved to "daily interest" instead of "monthly interest" payments. Who else is experiencing this problem on their ZAR Equities account?

Shares / GT247
« on: February 27, 2018, 03:33:39 pm »
Easy Equities is part of the Purple Group - it also has a company GT247 which was a trading platform. When I went on retirement in 2005 I used to read a daily bulletin board (can't remember the name right now) and the people commenting on this board were all traders from around the globe - they operated in London, SA, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, America. They absolutely castigated GT247 for poor administration, fouling up orders and unwarranted charges. Some were quite acerbic in their criticism of the company and its head honcho - Mark Barnes who is still chairman and is now the CEO of SAPO and has gone on record to say that he will fix this operation. My opinion

How does your experience after 2005 relate to this Noseweek investigation on GT247?

Shares / Purple Group family connection

Any relation to Carly Barnes (purple hair)?

Yes, I believe Carly is the daughter of Mark Barnes. You can see some interesting transaction in their annual report or SENSE reports for directors dealings.
