Thanks Shi - I'm aware of that but I do hold some in my portfolio and I want to buy some more - the share should rise above R 1 as they get to grips with the fiasco - which could happen before year end and I want to speculate on the ride to above R1

What's your forecast gcr? Worth a punt?

With the Rand taking a hammering at the moment is there a process of sending Rands offshore but not converting to Dollars, Sterling, etc until things get back to normal? In other words using an offshore Rands denominated account?

Thanks Patrick - will explore further

GCR - Speak to Mike Brown at ETFSA as they can assist with an offshore account which you can fund from SA by using one of the money transfer companies as mentioned by Patrick. Their rates are good and very helpful too and I'm no expert but I do have a UK bank account and I want to buy ETF's offshore and using the money transfer system seems the easiest option to me.

I've seen a lot of money transfer companies offering free transfers ie Exchange4Free, Travelwise, etc, etc so where do they get their commissions from? Do they get it when you remove funds from their accounts?

Thanks conradl, I found another company that might offer a card, https://transferwise.com/gb/borderless/card, looks quite promising.

Is there any update on this thread who are the best money transfer companies with branches in SA? Looking to transfer a sizeable amount to the UK has anyone used any transfer companies lately that they would recommend?

I've just managed to sell a property after it being a long time on the market and in light of the comments above where would you invest a large lump sum today as I have no intention of buying another property?

Hi guys, the internet is such a valuable source of info in almost everything we do in life and it got me thinking that as we find so much financial advice online from fairly well known sites surely there must be some gem websites that are hardly ever heard of and that a lot of you use almost on a daily basis for share and financial investing so would it be possible to name these sites so that we can all benefit with what they offer?

I'm thinking of sites like Just One Lap, Stealthy Wealth, etc just to name a few but there must be plenty!

GCR that is the big worry for me that R400b and more has gone out of the country in a few months and with the way this government is going it's going to get far worse and I'm really shocked at how this new president has done absolutely nothing to quell the fears of his own country and for investors from overseas! What is he trying to do run the place into the ground and he was supposed to be the great new hope after the previous regime and as a very wealthy man money would not have been his sole aim ala Trump but I see nothing that gives me any confidence for the future.

Still doesn't help me with my goal of getting an investment that gives me 15-20% return per year though!  :'(

Not so long ago we were reaping the rewards of stocks like the INDI, CML, etc with 20-30% annual gains being the norm but what's happened to the market and will it turn around any time soon?

Is anyone still making this type of growth or is it just a pipedream?

Posted this two years ago with some interesting replies but has anything changed? Zuma's gone but we've still got the Eskom debacle, land expropriation has reared it's head again and the Rand up and down as usual!

Still looking for that 15-20% annual growth but it's like trying to find the proverbial needle in a haystack!

Yo yo Yozzi. Your UK passport will be as good as a SA one after 29 March 2019 for immigration purposes. In the EU it will be classed as a third country passport and you will have no free movement.

Most EU countries will place reciprocal regulations in line with the UK for immigration. In a no deal situation you may have to be in Spain before that date to be resident. So start packing. We have.

Hi Orca, yes that's the way it looks at the moment and there's no way I'm going to be over there before March 29th but I still think there will be a delay or some sort of amnesty for UK passport holders to move to Spain and there is no way at all that the Spanish economy can do without a dramatic decrease of British tourists pumping millions into their coffers year on year and the moves that the Portugese government has made in light of the same scenario bears this out and Spain would be downright stupid to not follow suit.

Hi there and thanks for all the info .  I've been reading your earlier blog stuff but have not reviewed much lately . Suffice to say I see you're bidding Portugal goodbye for Tax & language reasons ... Sad, sorry to hear this .....   Ever thought about moving to Algarve where English is spoken>?

Sorry , .... getting off the reason for my correspondence.  We are currently resident in Spain ( one year now)but due to TAX and one or two other complications ( Drivers licence) we wish to move to Portugal and apply for the Non Habitual Tax  Resident so that we get the 10 year Tax window??>>> . We have not emigrated and hence have part of our investment in SA on JSE and in property.

I'm hoping you can offer some insight regarding the complications of applying for such etc. My wife is a UK passport holder but I am South African ( Green Mamba Passport) .. it bites.

Looking forward to chatting further , so until later, .  have a great day out there.

Rond

Hi Rond,

Read your post above re your intended move to Portugal and I'm currently looking at a move to Spain in the next year or so as I know the country very well from my many holiday trips there when I lived in the UK. I am a UK passport holder and currently resident in SA.

Where in Spain do you live? I'm looking at options with a good all year round climate with mild winters not bothered with the summer heat as I will probably go to the UK during July/Aug when it's very hot. It looks like the eastern areas of Spain are best climate wise from Almeria up to Alicante so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Have you had problems with tax in Spain and is it unsolvable? I'm retired here in SA and same as you I still own property here which I'm trying to sell at the moment but with the market being down at present it's taking longer than expected.

Like wise, any guidance or helpful tips on moving to Spain would be brilliant as although it seems easy to do sometimes others who've been there before know all the shortcuts and ways to avoid potential pitfalls.

No yozzi. I make a point of not looking at stocks I have sold. I sold at around R87.00 and have no wish to know the price now.

Good decision to sell Orca, it's half that price now!

It is quite normal for profit taking to happen after a short bull run.

Orca, are you still invested in CML?

Is it a buy at the present price and what's the outlook?
