It sucks being popular. Everyone gets jealous and nasty...
In case the rest of you were wondering what went on yesterday afternoon and evening, my server was under a DDOS attack. That's distributed denial of service in non-techie speak.
What it looks like is that someone was jealous that my main site was taking business away from theirs. Attack came from inside South Africa too, nice guys. Kept me up for a few hours. It doesn't look like this site was the target, just unfortunate collateral damage. The target it seems was my main site, a local (uhuhm should I let the cat out of the bag...) dating site ::)
Anyway, it appeared to stop just after midnight, so I'm really hoping things will be more normal today.

Orca, if my "" goes up, you should be able to see it from the cape. When it is overcast there by you it is not all ways clouds. ::)

Hey Patrick - are you under attack again? I have noted over the last few days that the site seems to be experiencing rather slow responses, not all the time, but fairly regularly, enough to be a bit of an irritation sometimes. Maybe it's from my side as well, but it hasn't been really noticable on other sites as yet. Just thought I'd let you know.

Not quite, yesterday a switch partially failed in the dallas data center I use. They claimed it was repaired yesterday around lunch time, but I'm not so sure. I also notice the slow page loads, also not all the time which makes it difficult to bug fix.

Can you guys give me feedback again. It seems faster now. I complained to the server team who keep trying to tell me there's no problem. Though maybe they are making changes in the background.

Browsing the site this afternoon seems a lot better than this morning and yesterday. I will monitor on the next visit and post an update.
