Patrick was so kind as to allow me to interview him  :)
It was a lot of fun! If you interested in reading it you can find it here - www.stealthywealth.co.za/2016/07/interview-with-very-stealthy-bloke.html

I enjoyed the interview Stealthy. You asked the type of questions that I, and I am sure others, would have been interested to know. It is amazing what Patrick was able to achieve by being frugal, yet still having a life. As he says it is amazing more people do not do some of these things. Well done Patrick on reaching early financial independence, was inspiring to read.

Yeah some epic quotes!

"I've also never really felt much of a need to accumulate things, apart from ETFs of course!"

I was quite shocked reading that and thought to myself......"Am I going mad?...I don't recall being interviewed".
Patrick thinks exactly my thoughts.
Good post.
I started here with nothing and still have most of it left.

Interesting.

Nice site stealthywealth.co.za

What is said is spot on BUT, and it's a big BUT, I know in my heart of hearts that I will never be able to marginalize myself like that for an extended period of time.

You have to be be born or trained like that, I tell myself.  As Patrick said, he wasn't interested in a new toy if he already had one.  Me on the other hand (I'm ashamed to admit)  thought:  So this is Barbie, she needs new outfits, 20 pairs of shoes for now, a convertible and a hose.  And she needs Ken and he better come with his own convertible and horse and they will be gallivanting all over the world in style - I've been doomed from the start.

The only positive I can think of now is that I've taught my two boys the total opposite of myself.  They have been trading and investing since pre-school, literally.  When I picked them up from school, they took my tablet with live trading and said:  "So Mommy are we long and short and when do I close?" - they handled it from there like a boss. They are super aware of world economy, saving and compound interest and absolutely despise the idea of financing.  Maybe I'm not so bad after all.

But kudos to you Patrick, very impressive. They should teach your principles and outlook in school.

Frikkin awesome, good on you, I have been trying that with my kids since they were small, but all I got right was my son plays online with me when I play Guildwar2 and now overwatch, and my daughter follows me on twitter.

As parents we do try jaDEB but they do have their own minds.  (Apologies if hijacking your thread sw.co.za but this was too good not to share:)

My youngest always said when he is big, he wants his own bank. Being a good mother and teaching them they can do anything they set their minds to, I encouraged them.

One day he came home after school with much more money than what he went with.  Puzzled I asked how he does this.  "I have my own bank" he says.  I turns out he saved his money and are lending it out at school to pupils at 100% interest, 1-day-term and the next day lending out the money plus his earned interest again. ??? Business was booming.  Being a little shocked but secretly proud I had to tell him no-no, you must first apply to be a bank and comply with all the regulatory requirements.

Later, when I realized both of them have Jordan Belfort as a role model I said: "Okay boys, you've got the business plan sorted, let's take it down a notch. Now, let's focus on ethics and morals for a bit."

The youngest is still adamant, he will have his own bank one day.
